Young Trader Killed in Illegal Street Racing Crash at IMSU Junction in Owerri
A young mobile phone accessories trader identified as Chibuike was killed on Sunday evening when he was struck by a car during unauthorized street racing near Imo State University (IMSU) junction in Owerri.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on July 26, 2026, at the university's front gate area along Okigwe Road. Witnesses and circulating videos show a dark-colored car with headlights on hitting the victim amid a group of onlookers as high-speed drifting took place on the public road. Chibuike, who traded near the junction, died at the scene.
The racing had resumed a day after a similar crash on Saturday, when a drifting vehicle hit a female pedestrian—who survived with serious injuries—and damaged the IMSU perimeter fence.
Videos of the fatal impact have spread widely on social media, prompting public criticism of the reckless activity in a busy area near the university and local traders. Some reports mention additional injuries, including to bystanders, though details remain unconfirmed. As of Monday morning, no official statement from the Imo State Police Command detailing arrests or an investigation has been widely reported.

Shocking Confession Video Resurfaces: Mother Explains Why She Killed Her Toddler
A video of a young Nigerian mother calmly detailing her reasons for killing her 1-year-and-9-month-old daughter is circulating widely again on social media.
In the footage, the woman, identified in 2020 reports as Oluwafunmilola Adisa (then 22), from Lagos, admits to the act and cites financial hardship, shame over single motherhood, disruption to her education goals, and exhaustion from the child’s needs. She later turned herself in to the police.
The original incident occurred in May 2020 at Gowon Estate in Ipaja, Lagos. Adisa was arrested, charged, and ordered by a magistrates’ court to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
The clip’s recent spread has drawn strong reactions online, with many viewers questioning her mental state and highlighting broader issues of single-parent support, poverty, and child welfare in Nigeria.

DSS Arrests Borno Youth Leader After Allegations of Ransom Payments to Boko Haram
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, following his appearance on Channels Television.
During the interview, Kaigama claimed that ₦5 billion was paid as ransom to secure the release of women and children abducted from Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area, but that Boko Haram received only ₦1.9 billion. He alleged diversion of funds involving government officials, including Senator Ali Ndume, and said he possessed evidence of the transactions.
The Borno State Government has denied the claims, stating that the 360 captives were freed through an intelligence-led military operation by troops of Operation Hadin Kai in collaboration with the DSS, with no ransom paid.
Amnesty International has expressed concern over the arrest, describing it as arbitrary and calling on authorities to either release Kaigama, grant him access to lawyers, or charge him in court.
The DSS has not issued a public statement on the detention.

On June 21, 2026, a mob lynching of Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu, an Islamic teacher and mother, occurred in Mararaban Jos, Kaduna. She was falsely accused of child theft after asking children for directions while heading to a lecture. A mob beat her, paraded her, and burned her alive. Police condemned the act and made arrests, including 24 suspects, but reports say they failed to protect her. The "asking for directions" detail matches multiple accounts; the child theft claim was baseless. It was a tragic case of jungle justice.

"I want to appeal to our young people in this country: Burna Boy, Asake, and Davido. We want to see you come together under one foundation to help the poor with your money. The Maybachs and Rolls-Royces are good, but you can still help. The burden on the government is huge."
