Tesla Roadster Revealed: Flying Stunts and a Claimed 0.81-Second 0-60 mph
Tesla has finally shown the new Roadster, simply called Roadster, nearly a decade after it first previewed the car in 2017. In the debut demo, the much more angular sports car drove off a ramp, flipped itself over mid-air, barrel-rolled over the Tesla lineup and landed. It is still a concept, and production is slated to begin in 2028.
Key details
• 0-60 mph in 0.81 s in tonight's demo, according to Tesla
• Underbody fans provide up to 2 g of downforce at standstill
• 10 cold-gas thrusters fed by two 600-liter ultra-high-pressure air tanks, developed with SpaceX
• Trims: Performance ($50,000 deposit), Thrust ($250,000, needed for the sub-1-second sprint) and the single-seat, flight-capable Rocket (invite only)
Still unknown
• Range, horsepower, motors, battery capacity, factory and markets have not been disclosed
