PART (9) : IMPORTANCE FACTOR AS PER ASCE

In many projects , we can see that the structural engineer define the vertical component of seismic force with spectrum load in specific direction ( ex : Spec X + Spec z ) using ASCE 7-16 . The mistake starts when we select the same response function for horizontal and vertical direction in dynamic load combination . ASCE7-16 provides some provisions for dynamic vertical ground motion component but you have to take care that the vertical response function in this case is totally different than horizontal response spectrum .
