Три года назад мы отправились с детьми на Острова Ершовы - арт-резиденцию недалеко от Екатеринбурга, которая расположена сразу на трёх островах! Это была выездная архитектурная экспедиция. Несколько дней мы исследовали место, смотрели, как устроена территория, обсуждали её характер и придумывали, каким может быть развитие островов. На фото - макет острова с миниатюрами проектов, которые дети сделали во время экспедиции. В нём собраны их идеи, наблюдения и первые попытки работать с настоящим пространством. Кураторами проекта выступили ребята из команды БЙР - студенты и молодые архитекторы. Они помогали участникам превращать впечатления в архитектурные решения. Одним из источников вдохновения стали сказки и образы Урала: каждый объект получил свой характер и вырос из отдельного персонажа. А альбом в ручной графике, который появился по итогам экспедиции, покажем в следующем посте!

VOLGA ARCHIVE The proposal includes a cultural and research complex dedicated to collecting, preserving and cataloguing the history of Volgograd and its riverfront territories. It may also become a starting point for a future park of Volgograd vernacular architecture on the island while preserving the dominance of the natural environment. An exhibition center is located inside the concrete base, while the accessible roof contains additional public programs including a cafeteria and a library overlooking the landscape.

VOLGA ARCHIVE 1. Raised above a concrete stylobate, the complex is protected from seasonal flooding and drifting ice during the spring thaw. Major public functions are elevated to the second level, allowing water flows and natural terrain to pass beneath the structure. 2. Above the concrete foundation, the complex is constructed entirely from timber using two different structural systems. The research center tower relies on an external wooden structural frame that emphasizes openness and flexibility of the interior spaces. In contrast, the hotel tower is assembled from self-supporting modular room units organized around a central core.

VOLGA ARCHIVE The third project in the Volgograd Riverfront Research series explores Golodny Island as a landscape archive of the Volga territory — a place where natural systems, collective memory and minimal traces of human presence coexist outside the dense urban fabric. Historically, the island was never densely developed. Today it remains an almost entirely natural territory occupied only by small seasonal dachas scattered through the landscape. During summer, residents of Volgograd travel there by boat to rest near the water, temporarily inhabiting the territory without fundamentally transforming it. The proposal preserves this condition and avoids large-scale urban expansion on the island. A new public route connects the city with the island through a cable car system and a limited number of architectural interventions embedded within the landscape. Observation points, archive spaces, research programs and temporary public functions are organized around the idea of slow movement through nature. INDUSTRIAL VERNACULAR

В середине апреля, в рамках фестиваля«Перспектива», была реализована инсталляция «Основы» — мой второй кураторский проект и высказывание в виде 14 подвешенных колонн в пространстве ЦДА. Мне было важно лишить экспозицию привычной устойчивости — оторвать её от земли. В этом жесте для меня проявляется сегодняшнее состояние архитектуры: когда внешние опоры размыты, остаётся только одно — искать основание внутри. «Основы» — это не про конструкции. Это про напряжение, из которого они возникают. Про момент, когда ты больше не можешь опираться на заданное и вынужден заново определить собственный фундамент. Я предложила молодым бюро и авторам сделать не про «основания колонн», а сформулировать свою базу — собрать образ, как предельно сжатого жеста устойчивости. Каждое основание здесь — это не ответ, а фиксация поиска: того, что удерживает, когда всё остальное колеблется. Вся работа с пространством — от разрыва с землёй до логики восприятия — была для меня способом сделать этот поиск физически ощутимым. INDUSTRIAL VERNACULAR The second project in the Volgograd Riverfront Research series explores the embankment of the Tractor Factory district - a fragmented waterfront shaped by industry, infrastructure and collective memory. Unlike the first proposal, this project is not focused on direct interaction with water. Instead, it studies the culture of leisure that emerged around the industrial city and the relationship between everyday recreation and the river landscape. The project combines the atmosphere of the Soviet dacha with the scale and spatial language of industrial architecture. Large perimeter walls, chimney silhouettes and infrastructural forms are mixed with gardens, courtyards, pitched roofs and small domestic spaces embedded inside a larger public structure. At the center of the project is a collective leisure complex organized around a large enclosed volume containing smaller autonomous programs within it. The architecture works as a sheltered landscape for seasonal recreation near the city. Rather than restoring historical forms literally, the proposal reinterprets spatial and social codes already present in the territory - transforming a former landscape of labor into a new landscape of rest.

SOUTH GATE The project for the Yelshanka waterfront is based on the historical role of this territory in the life of Volgograd. Originally, the embankment developed around timber transportation along the Volga. Floating wood rafts formed temporary piers and structures extending into the river, while everyday life of workers and local residents was concentrated around the waterfront. The river landscape was shaped by wooden houses, bathhouses and floating structures, with stone bell towers acting as dominant landmarks along the shore. In the project, the embankment becomes a new public riverfront connected to local river culture. The proposal includes a park, yacht club with floating houses, sports infrastructure, public spaces and a continuous pedestrian embankment with direct access to the water. The architectural language references historical wooden river infrastructure and floating structures traditional for Volgograd.

Starting a series of posts dedicated to waterfront territories in Volgograd and speculative projects developed as part of an ongoing urban research practice THE VOLGA LINE Volgograd is a linear city stretched along the Volga River for more than 80 kilometers. Despite this, large parts of the waterfront remain fragmented and disconnected from everyday urban life. Today these territories are becoming part of a broader discussion about future riverfront development in the city. Industrial zones, abandoned infrastructure and isolated river territories formed long inactive edges along the water instead of a continuous public riverfront. This research series explores several territories in the southern part of Volgograd and proposes different approaches to their transformation. Each project works with existing spatial conditions of the site: industrial remains, floodplain landscape, local settlement patterns and the relationship between the city and the river.
