🔥UPDATE🔥 2022 WASSCE: WAEC CLEARS AIR ON WITHHELD RESULTS The West African Examinations Council has restated that all withheld results in its examinations were as a result of alleged malpractices. The Head, National Office, Mr Patrick Areghan, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos. Areghan was speaking against the backdrop of reports in some sections of the media, accusing the council of deliberately withholding results of candidates supposedly for the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination. “Our attention has been drawn to reports in some quarters of how the council was deliberately withholding results of candidates of some states in the country. “This, I will say, is wicked, malicious, misleading and a calculated attempt to drag the name of council into the mud or disrepute. It is utter ignorance. For emphasis, any candidate that has his or her result withheld is as a result of alleged examination malpractice. “After necessary investigations of all alleged examination malpractice cases, innocent candidates would have their results released, while the guilty ones will have that subject or entire results cancelled. This will be as directed by the Nigeria Examinations Committee,” the WAEC boss stated. He added that as much as the examination body was willing and ready to maintain cordial relationships with all its stakeholders, threatening to take council to court by some persons over the development was uncalled for. “We have our evidence though and any one in doubt can approach us. We are always ready to present our side, anywhere we are called upon to do. We stand by our rules and regulations. We will always apply the same set of laws all over the country, no matter what it takes or who is involved. “We will never apply different sets of laws for different states in the country, or give any preferential treatment to any candidate, school or state for that matter. “We will continue to contribute our quota to national development by delivering quality services, in a bid to sanitise the system,” Areghan added. *ASUU suspends strike after eight months* The Academic Staff Union of Universities has suspended its eight-month strike, The PUNCH can authoritatively confirm. Though the union is yet to make an official pronouncement, our correspondent gathered that the decision was taken at the end of the National Executive Council meeting which was held at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja. Speaking with our correspondent, a highly informed source within the NEC said, “Yes, it has been called off”. 🔥UPDATE🔥 2022 WASSCE: WAEC CONCLUDES NEC MEETING, TO RELEASE RESULTS OF EXONERATED CANDIDATES (DETAILS) Excerpt from the Communique that was issued after the 74th Meeting of the Nigeria Examination Committee (NEC) of WAEC. The meeting was held on Monday, 10th to Wednesday, 12th October, 2022 at the WAEC Testing and Training Centre (WTTC), Ogba - Lagos. The Committee received reports on Irregularity, Special Cases and Appeals for Clemency arising from the conduct of WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2021- Second Series and WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2022 - First Series which were considered at the 73rd Meeting of the Committee. NEC, after painstakingly considering the various reported cases of malpractice in WASSCE for School Candidates, 2022 approved the appropriate sanctions in all established cases of malpractice, as prescribed by the Rules and Regulations governing the conduct of the Council’s exams It equally authorized that the entire results of candidates proven to have been involved in examination malpractices which attract the penalty of Cancellation of Entire Results (CER) be cancelled, Some candidates will also suffer other sanctions such as being barred from sitting the Council’s examinations for two years. Some schools will be derecognized for a specified number of years or have their recognition completely withdrawn. Some supervisors that were found wanting in the discharge of their examination duties will be formally reported to their employers and blacklisted by the Council, while some Invigilators will also be reported to the appropriate authorities for disciplinary action.
