▪️ Changing blood supply: In the pelvis, the developing kidney receives blood from a branch of the aorta. As it ascends, it gains new arterial branches from progressively higher levels of the aorta; lower vessels usually regress.
▪️ Clinical significance: If lower vessels persist, they may form accessory renal arteries, often supplying the lower pole. A lower-pole artery may also cross the ureteropelvic junction and contribute to urinary obstruction.
