Chile registered 842 homicides in 2022, an increase of 43% compared to the previous year's figures, according to an official balance sheet released Tuesday by the government of Gabriel Boric, which has defended precisely, but ineffectively, the fight against insecurity in the South American country.
The highest rates of danger are recorded in Tarapacá, in northern Chile, where there are 10.3 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, more than double the national average of 4,6.
