What does modern science say about what brings us happiness in a relationship?
The largest meta-analysis in history (Western University) is a groundbreaking study in which artificial intelligence analyzed data from 43,086 couples across 84 different databases. Scientists were trying to understand which factors are the strongest predictors of relationship quality.
The results showed that "external" variables (how much partners earn, whether their personalities match, or what their age is) affect happiness much less than their internal perception of the relationship.
The top scientific predictors of happiness turned out to be:
1. Perceived partner commitment: Your personal confidence that your partner is in it for the long haul and truly values the relationship.
2. Gratitude: The feeling of being appreciated and the ability to notice your partner's contributions.
3. Sexual satisfaction: This correlates with the overall happiness of a couple much more strongly than the amount of money they make.
4. Low level of conflict: The absence of chronic, destructive arguments.
How would you rate your satisfaction across these points in your own relationship?
Gentlemen, if you manage a business, you outsource your accounting, legal protection, and recruitment to experts. So why are you still trying to find a wife by micro-managing dating apps?
Leaving your personal life to chance or algorithms is the biggest mistake a high-value man can make.

Women demanding an emergency upgrade to their love life! And a husband, stat! 🥵
I just caught a post from one of these ladies in my stories, and it instantly reminded me of this specific "bride archetype."
We’re talking about women who bring a terrifying level of persistence, demands, and pure aggression... even to a matchmaking agency.
Nightmares to work with.
And honestly? Probably a nightmare to date.
Men swipe left on their profiles faster than the speed of light, as if they can smell the drama from a mile away. I’ve been talking to guys for decades—young, old, Ukrainian, American—and they all want the exact same thing: warmth, femininity, softness, beauty, and that gentle vibe.
Let’s be real: no man has ever looked at "three degrees and a Managing Director title" and thought, "Oh damn, let me sprint to that date right now!" Meanwhile, they’re ready to move mountains and make grand gestures for a woman who is genuinely elegant, feminine, and sweet. ❤️
Notes from a matchmaker with 20+ years of experience 😘
So, my dear readers, what’s the ultimate dealbreaker or must-have for you in a woman? 😉
The recently published, large-scale State of Our Unions 2026 report (Institute for Family Studies, May 2026) has revealed tectonic shifts in the behavior of Americans:
1. The Onset of the "Dating Recession"
74% of women and 64% of men in the US (aged 22–35) stated that they hadn't been on a date at all over the past year, or had only gone out a couple of times.
It seems people have simply forgotten how to date. Because of this, the cost of making a mistake on a first meeting has skyrocketed. While people used to easily agree to a second date with a "why not?" attitude, in 2026, due to overall stress and low dating resilience, they are highly reluctant to give a second chance.
2. A Crisis of Confidence in One's Own Choices
Only 37% of respondents stated that they trust their own judgment when choosing a partner. People fear a second date because they doubt themselves.
3. Communication Deadlock (Hinge D.A.T.E. Report)
85% of daters are more likely to agree to a second date if they were asked deep, thoughtful questions during the first one. However, the reality is dismal: only 30% of couples feel that their partner showed genuine interest and asked enough questions on the first date.
On top of that, building communication with a real human being is becoming increasingly difficult. As people frequently interact with AI for various daily tasks, they get used to constant compliance and validation—something that rarely happens when dealing with a living partner.
This is definitely a wake-up call to start doing things differently!

The Harsh Truth from a Matchmaker: Why Nobody Notices Your "Rich Inner World"
Every second client during their first consultation tells me the exact same phrase: "The most important thing for me is that the person is good; looks are secondary."
Do you know what happens next? I open the candidate database, and those very same people begin to meticulously scrutinize the photographs. Has humanity changed? No. It’s just that as a matchmaker and dating coach, I know one bitter but necessary truth: appearance is the entry ticket to a relationship.
We can talk about soulmates all we want, but if the wrapper doesn’t attract, no one is ever going to taste the candy. And this isn't superficiality—it’s pure science. Here is how our brain is wired when we choose a partner:
1. The 100-Millisecond Rule
Do you think people spend a long time studying your profile bio? According to research from Princeton University, it takes a person just 100 milliseconds (one-tenth of a second!) to form a first impression of your trustworthiness, attractiveness, and status based solely on your facial expression and silhouette. In dating apps, the decision to "swipe" is made within 1 to 3 seconds. The brain simply doesn't give you a second chance.
2. The Magic of the "Halo Effect"
In psychology, there is a fundamental concept known as the Halo Effect. Our brain is lazy; it loves to simplify. When we see a well-groomed, stylish, and fit person, our subconscious automatically credits them with a bunch of positive traits: *"They must be smart, kind, successful, and honest."* External attractiveness in the eyes of a stranger is an instant marker of your internal adequacy.
3. Extra Weight in Dating: The Cold, Hard Numbers
Let’s take off the rose-colored glasses of body positivity and look at the statistics from major dating platforms (including research from Oxford University). It is brutal:
* For Women: Having significant excess weight reduces the number of incoming likes and messages from men by an average of 40–50%. On an evolutionary level, the male brain reads a certain body mass index as a marker of health and energy.
* For Men: Men who are significantly overweight lose up to 60% of potential attention from women (unless that weight is compensated for by ultra-high income or celebrity status).
> But there is an important nuance! Research shows that if an overweight person is dressed stylishly, neatly, and projects confidence, their chances increase by 20–25% compared to those who try to hide their figure in shapeless gray hoodies. Appearance is not just about clothing size; it is about your attitude toward yourself.
4. The Inner Ape vs. Civilization
Our civilized brain is only a few thousand years old, but our evolutionary (reptilian) brain is millions of years old. Clear skin, well-groomed
hair, healthy teeth, and a fit physique are not social media trends. They are biological markers of a good hormonal profile and a strong immune system. Our "inner ape" will always choose the partner who looks healthy.
### My Verdict as an Expert:
Appearance is the cover of a book. No matter how brilliant, deep, and thrilling the plot inside you is, if the cover is crumpled, stained, or designed with complete indifference, no one will ever pick the book off the shelf.
Investing in your appearance, style, and health isn't about pleasing someone else. It is about opening the door for the people who are truly worthy of getting to know your soul.
Do you agree with this dating math, or do you still believe that "people judge a book by its cover, but love it for its content"?
What if there is a woman you consider for dating/marriage over 40yo and she does not have kids? What are your thoughts?
Dating world updates 🔥
According to the latest Global Matchmaking Market Size report (April–May 2026), the geography of first meetings in international dating has changed dramatically:
Top destinations for the “First Touch”:
🇵🇹 Portugal (Lisbon/Porto): Became the #1 meeting point for “USA — Eastern Europe” couples thanks to easy logistics and safety.
🇹🇷 Turkey (Istanbul/Bodrum): Still holds its position as the most budget-friendly and visa-free hub.
🇵🇱 Poland: In 2026, the country recorded a historic rise in international marriages (4.1% of all marriages — the highest level in 20 years). Poland has become a “safe haven” for couples from Ukraine and Western countries to meet.
“Dating App Fatigue” in numbers:
📉 The average match rate for men on Tinder in 2026 dropped to 5.26%.
Men in the US and Canada are spending thousands of dollars on “empty swipes,” while 27% of couples who married in 2025–2026 through matchmaking agencies met in real life after just their second video call.
The 777 Rule:
In 2026, a new trend is gaining popularity in the US:
7 days of texting, 7 video calls, and a meeting by the 7th week.
If a couple does not meet in person within the first 2 months, the chance of marriage drops by 60%.
Everything is changing. Everything is moving forward.

Did you know that international marriages in the US fall apart twice as rarely as domestic ones?
Fresh research on international marriage (Texas Tech, May 2026) reveals surprising numbers: divorce rates in “American man + Ukrainian woman” couples are 25–30%. That’s significantly LOWER than the average US domestic divorce rate (41–50%).
Why? Such couples are inherently committed to “putting in high effort” on the relationship and come in with clearer, more explicitly defined expectations from the start.
The secret is also “radical transparency” from day one.
We don’t just make introductions — we conduct a “values audit” so you don’t waste 8 years of your life on someone who isn’t right for you.
“Marry a millionaire? Easy — just come to us!”
Messages like this attract attention very easily. But now, let’s talk about reality. As always. 😉
From the everyday life of a matchmaker: if your main criterion in searching for a partner is simply “he must be a millionaire,” then if you are 35–40+, the chances are very small — maybe 0.00001%. Because men also know “that’s how the game works.” And in exchange for their millions, many of them will also make a very functional choice: someone 20 years younger, fresher, more carefree, without heavy life experience that may complicate their current lifestyle.
But if your main criteria are shared values, a similar worldview, and your true desires are love, emotional closeness, trust, warmth, and the ability to genuinely see the man as a person — then anything is possible, even at 70+.
Recently, I spoke with a woman who had been married to millionaires more than once. She told me that if she had to choose today between money and soul, she would choose the second.
That’s why I believe in love, sincerity, and timeless values.
And if two people are intelligent and hardworking, money will usually follow — maybe not billions, but enough for a good life together.
How do you build a relationship when you’re running on empty — but still want one?
I recently had this exact conversation with two of my clients — a man and a woman — and what they shared stayed with me.
War has changed more than geography. It has changed us from the inside: our state of mind, our thoughts, and inevitably, our behavior.
Thousands of Ukrainian women today are living in constant survival mode: emigration, a new country, a foreign language, work, children, anxiety about those left behind. Every day is a marathon on an empty tank.
And here’s the paradox:
A woman wants a relationship — warmth, closeness, support.
But she’s so exhausted she can’t give what a relationship requires.
A man in a relationship wants presence: energy, aliveness, flirtation, that special spark of a light-hearted, happy woman.
And sometimes he gets… a closed door. Not from indifference — but because she’s simply depleted.
What does she need right now?
• To be seen in her exhaustion — without being dismissed (“others have it worse”)
• Acceptance without demands: sometimes just having someone beside her, not fixing anything
• Space to recover, without guilt
• To know she’s not broken — she’s just carrying too much
What does he need right now?
• To feel needed and significant beside her
• To see a response — small, but real
• To understand her withdrawal isn’t rejection — it’s a protective reaction
• Clarity — to know how he can help, rather than guessing
So how do you break the cycle?
There’s no simple answer. But here are a few thoughts:
1. Speak honestly — “I’m at zero right now, but I’m here.” And let the other person choose whether to stay.
2. Small moments of connection over big expectations — 10 minutes of real attention beats a whole evening together where both of you are on your phones.
3. Men: invest first, while she doesn’t have the resources. Willingly, of course — if every contribution is being counted, better not to.
4. Women: name your needs — don’t wait for someone to guess.
5. Both: lower the bar for “the right relationship” during this season of life.
And a few facts:
A study on the living conditions of Ukrainian women in Europe found that only 21% can support themselves easily or fairly easily. 36% work without a contract or on part-time contracts; 24% are underpaid or unpaid entirely.
According to Polish researcher Długosz, in 2024, 58% of Ukrainian refugees showed high stress levels and 11% were experiencing severe anxiety. By 2025, those figures had risen to 80% and 22%. His explanation is simple: “First the body fights, then it adapts — and then comes the exhaustion.”
Research confirms: even in safe environments, refugees show significantly higher rates of depression, PTSD, and anxiety disorders compared to those unaffected by war. And the post-traumatic response often doesn’t ease over time — it deepens.
A question for you:
How are you navigating this? What helps you build closeness when you have almost nothing left?
Who should pay for the first date bill and further ?
Who should pay on the first date and beyond?
Just the facts today 😘
The latest Global Dating Etiquette Report (May 2026) has revealed a curious gap between behavior and expectations:
• The Male Standard: 84% of men state that they still pay for the majority of first dates.
• The Female Expectation: Only 57% of women believe that a man is obligated to pay on the first date.
• The 27% Gap: This is the "awkward zone."
Men pay more often than women expect because they are afraid of appearing stingy. Women are often ready to split the bill but fear offending the man.
Cultural Nuances:
• Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Poland): A man’s refusal to pay the bill is still viewed as a major "red flag" (82% of women would see this as a lack of serious intent).
• Scandinavia and Germany: Here, a man’s offer to cover the entire bill might be perceived as patronizing or a violation of personal boundaries.
Where do the “butterflies” go — and why that’s actually good news?
Love at 20 vs love at 40–50: why you should stop looking for that “electric shock”
In consultations, I often hear:
“Elena, I like him — he’s reliable, kind… but there’s no spark. At 20, I used to feel like I was flying, and now — it’s just calm. Maybe he’s not my person?”
Men say something similar:
“She’s an attractive, well-put-together woman, but I didn’t fall in love instantly… maybe I should keep looking.”
Let’s be honest: expecting your body at 50+ to react the same way it did at 20 is like expecting a comfortable SUV to launch like a race car with flames shooting from the exhaust.
What does biology say?
(My mother, a doctor, and I often discuss this exact topic — love and the “wow effect.”)
In youth, love is a hormonal storm:
• Testosterone and estrogen drive us to seek a partner.
• Dopamine keeps us awake at night and makes us idealize the person.
• Adrenaline makes the heart race at every meeting.
This is a kind of “hormonal glue” designed by nature to help people bond quickly and reproduce.
After 50, this storm settles. In its place come different hormones — oxytocin and vasopressin.
Mature love is not an explosion — it’s a warm, steady glow.
These are the hormones of attachment, tenderness, and safety. Instead of “sparks,” you experience deep recognition, intellectual resonance, and physical comfort.
Does that mean there’s no passion?
Not at all. It simply changes.
It’s no longer shock and intensity, but conscious pleasure, trust, and deep sensuality.
At 20, we love with our hormones. At 50+, we love the Person.
Don’t chase the “electric shock” — it’s often a sign of anxiety, not love.
Look for someone with whom you feel warm, calm, and genuinely interested.
Real intimacy begins where you no longer have to perform or pretend.
