HyperText Markup Language or HTML is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser. It can be assisted by technologies such as Cascading Style Sheets and scripting languages such as JavaScript.
Development started in 1989 at CERN by Tim-Berners Lee who adjusted the web browser of the World Wide Web (WWW).

• HTML describes the structure of a Web page
• HTML consists of a series of elements
• HTML elements tell the browser how to display the content
• HTML elements label pieces of content such as "this is a heading", "this is a paragraph", "this is a link", etc.
Example 1.1: Simple Basic of HTML
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Page Title</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>My First Heading</h1>

</body>
</html>

• The <html> element is the root element of an HTML page.
• The <head> element contains meta information about the HTML page.
• The <title> element specifies a title for the HTML page.
• The <body> element defines the document's body, and is a container for all the visible contents, such as headings, paragraphs, images, hyperlinks, tables, lists, etc.
• The <h1> element defines a large heading.
