And on this note we have come to the end of today’s segment! 🤧 But before we close, tell me 3 things you learnt today

HIS LEGACY 💫 💫 Darwin's contributions to science, particularly his theory of evolution by natural selection, continue to have a profound impact on our understanding of biology. 💫 His work is commemorated through various awards, institutions, and events, such as Darwin Day, celebrated on his birthday, February 12

A minute of silence for him… 🤧

HIS BURIAL 🪦 🪦 Darwin was given a prestigious burial at Westminster Abbey in London. This honor reflected the high esteem in which he was held by the scientific community and society at large. 🪦 His funeral on April 26, 1882, was attended by many notable figures, including scientists, statesmen, and other distinguished individuals.

HIS DEATH 🤧 🕊️ In the weeks leading up to his death, Darwin experienced severe chest pains and heart failure, which eventually led to his demise on 19th April, 1882. 🕊️ He was surrounded by his family during his final moments. His wife, Emma, and their children were with him at Down House.

HEALTH ISSUES 🏥 🏥 Darwin suffered from a variety of health issues throughout his life, including gastrointestinal problems, heart palpitations, and severe fatigue. 🏥 The exact cause of his ailments remains unclear, with some speculations including Chagas disease, cyclic vomiting syndrome, and psychological stress.

6. Delayed Publication: Darwin developed his theory of natural selection years before he published "On the Origin of Species" in 1859. He delayed publication, partly due to fear of the controversy it would generate. 7. Alfred Russel Wallace:!Darwin was spurred to publish his work when he received an essay from Alfred Russel Wallace, who had independently conceived a similar theory of natural selection. 8. Health Issues: Darwin suffered from chronic health problems, including stomach pains, heart palpitations, and severe fatigue. These ailments often confined him to bed and were a mystery during his lifetime. 9. Family Connections: Darwin married his first cousin, Emma Wedgwood. They had ten children, and Darwin was deeply concerned about the potential health impacts of their close genetic relationship. 10. Westminster Abbey Burial: Despite the controversy his work generated, Darwin was honored with a burial in Westminster Abbey, a recognition of his significant contributions to science.

Ten Fun Facts About Charles Darwin 1. Early Naturalist: As a child, Darwin had a passion for collecting things, including beetles, shells, and minerals. His fascination with the natural world began at a young age. 2. Medical School Dropout: Darwin enrolled in the University of Edinburgh to study medicine but left because he found the lectures boring and surgery distressing. 3. Beetle Mania: While at Cambridge, Darwin became an avid beetle collector. At one point, he famously put a beetle in his mouth to free his hands for two more beetles he wanted to catch. 4. Love for Dogs: Darwin was a great dog lover and owned several dogs throughout his life. He enjoyed observing their behavior and even mentioned them in his scientific writings. 5. Galápagos Islands Influence: Darwin's visit to the Galápagos Islands during the HMS Beagle voyage was pivotal. The unique species he observed there significantly influenced his thoughts on evolution.

AWARDS WON BY CHARLES DARWIN 🏆✨ 🎖️ Charles was awarded the Royal Medal in 1853 by the Royal Society of London for his work on the structure and distribution of coral reefs 🎖️ In 1864 he was awarded the Copley Medal again from the Royal Society of London for his contribution to natural science, especially on evolutionary biology. 🎖️ He was also awarded the Wollaston Medal in 1859 by the Geological Society of London for his works in geology and his studies on the formation of coral reefs and volcanic islands

CONTRIBUTIONS OF CHARLES DARWIN TO SCIENCE ⚛️ Charles Darwin is famous and well known for his contribution towards the study of evolution by introducing the theory of natural selection. Natural selection is the process where individuals with advantageous traits are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing those traits to future generations. Over time, this leads to the evolution of species as beneficial traits become more common. ⚛️ Charles Darwin also made groundbreaking achievements in the fields of geology, botany, zoology and anthropology. He also impacted the methodology of scientific research in terms of data collection and analysis.

So all of you that want to study medicine but you don’t like it, it’s not by force ohhh! Boss Darwin can relate 🌚
