This is done so the cells form a single layer. We use it to examine cell morphology and do a differential count under the microscope.
*B - THICK SMEAR*
This is a large drop of blood left concentrated in the middle without spreading.
It’s dark red, thick, and not transparent.
The goal is to concentrate the blood in a small area so we can easily find parasites even if they are very few, like in malaria or Microfilaria.
*The difference you can see with the naked eye:*
Thin = spread out, light, pale pink color.
Thick = concentrated, dark, deep red color.
