Google's Pixel / GCam app is a great, easy to use, feature rich camera app that competes well with the excellent open source OpenCamera. GCam brings things like portrait mode, and easy slow-motion.
Because of this, there are many developers porting the app to work on as many phones as possible. This can increase the performance of your phone's camera, and the ports can also bring the GCam app to DeGoogled phones.
GCam Hub is a website dedicated to tracking all the GCam ports.
Here is the 👉🏻 web page listing many Stable GCam Version:
You can work you way through the list until you find one that works on your phone, but then you may try 100 versions and never get one that works.
Note: Shamim's SGCAM version 8.5.300 V5 works on Pixel 3a running Lineage.
If you find a version that works on your phone, let everyone know in the comments.

How to install the latest GIMP 2.99 (the 3.0 development version) via PPA. There are a lot of cool features in this developmental version.
Warning. . . this will most like be buggy. and lack features found in 2.10. Every time I install GIMP 2.99 it has issues, and I end up reverting back to 2.10.xx.
To install GIMP 2.99
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mati75/gimp30
sudo apt update
sudo apt install gimp gegl mypaint-brushes
To remove 2.99 and revert back to 2.10.xx stable, do this:
sudo apt purge gimp*
sudo apt-add-repository -r ppa:mati75/gimp30
sudo apt update
sudo apt install gimp
To switch back to older version w/out removing 2.99 repo:
1. Get list of available gimp & gimp-data packages
sudo apt policy gimp gimp-data
2. Install matching version numbers at same time by using = sign & desired version after package name.
For example:
sudo apt install gimp=2.10.30-1build1 gimp-data=2.10.30-1build1

In this 👉 video Nick goes over SystemD.
- What Are Init Systems?
- Initialization service
- 1st thing to start up
- launch services in proper order
- Bloated?
- Does non-init things
- Gets bigger over time
- Still modular
- Bloat depends on implementation
- Distros implement a lot
- Hard to argue it's not bloated
- Everything Depends on It?
- So pervasive things can't function w/out it
- Other solutions = more work
- Red Hat Project?
- Red Hat started it
- 1 company w/control = bad
- It can be forked
- Restricts Choice/Modularity?
- Other choices exist
- Hard not to use
- Makes Linux Less Secure?
- Used on many distros = bigger target
- Big projects may be less secure
- Better maintained than random small projects
- Why Use SystemD
- Unified project = learn 1 system to manage many things
- Processes can start in mostly any order
- Well integrated into Linux Kernel
- Written in C, faster than scripts

Louis Rossman and his Futo company have finally released their voice recognition app for Android phones.
The app is called Voice Input. It is based on WhisperAI, which is really good. This means it does capitalization, and punctuation. This is the solution we've been waiting for!
The Voice Input app is open-source, but it's not FOSS, and had a fairly limited license.
Here is the F-Droid repo:
https://app.futo.org/fdroid/repo/
You can download the app directly from the company's website:
https://voiceinput.futo.org
Learn more about the app in this video:

Here is the source code. (They run their own GitLab server . . Yay!)

Fonts can vary from distro to distro. Since Mint and Ubuntu are the most common, installing the fonts that come with those distros will generally make your system more "Linux standardized".
To install the Linux MInt fonts, which should be the same a Ubuntu, you type in this command:
(It hasn't been verified that Mint and Ubuntu have the same fonts)
sudo apt install fonts-beng fonts-beng-extra fonts-dejavu-core fonts-deva fonts-deva-extra fonts-droid-fallback fonts-font-awesome fonts-freefont-ttf fonts-gargi fonts-gubbi fonts-gujr fonts-gujr-extra fonts-guru fonts-guru-extra fonts-indic fonts-kacst fonts-kacst-one fonts-kalapi fonts-khmeros-core fonts-knda fonts-lao fonts-liberation fonts-liberation fonts-lklug-sinhala fonts-lohit-beng-assamese fonts-lohit-beng-bengali fonts-lohit-deva fonts-lohit-gujr fonts-lohit-guru fonts-lohit-knda fonts-lohit-mlym fonts-lohit-orya fonts-lohit-taml fonts-lohit-taml-classical fonts-lohit-telu fonts-mathjax fonts-mlym fonts-nakula fonts-navilu fonts-noto-cjk fonts-noto-color-emoji fonts-noto-mono fonts-opensymbol fonts-orya fonts-orya-extra fonts-pagul fonts-pagul fonts-quicksand fonts-sahadeva fonts-samyak-deva fonts-samyak-gujr fonts-samyak-mlym fonts-samyak-taml fonts-sarai fonts-sil-abyssinica fonts-sil-padauk fonts-smc fonts-smc-anjalioldlipi fonts-smc-chilanka fonts-smc-dyuthi fonts-smc-gayathri fonts-smc-karumbi fonts-smc-keraleeyam fonts-smc-manjari fonts-smc-meera fonts-smc-rachana fonts-smc-raghumalayalamsans fonts-smc-suruma fonts-smc-uroob fonts-taml fonts-telu fonts-telu-extra fonts-teluguvijayam fonts-thai-tlwg fonts-tibetan-machine fonts-tlwg-garuda fonts-tlwg-garuda-ttf fonts-tlwg-kinnari fonts-tlwg-kinnari-ttf fonts-tlwg-laksaman fonts-tlwg-laksaman-ttf fonts-tlwg-loma fonts-tlwg-loma-ttf fonts-tlwg-mono fonts-tlwg-mono-ttf fonts-tlwg-norasi fonts-tlwg-norasi-ttf fonts-tlwg-purisa fonts-tlwg-purisa-ttf fonts-tlwg-sawasdee fonts-tlwg-sawasdee-ttf fonts-tlwg-typewriter fonts-tlwg-typewriter-ttf fonts-tlwg-typist fonts-tlwg-typist-ttf fonts-tlwg-typo fonts-tlwg-typo-ttf fonts-tlwg-umpush fonts-tlwg-umpush-ttf fonts-tlwg-waree fonts-tlwg-waree-ttf fonts-ubuntu fonts-urw-base35 fonts-yrsa-rasaIf a certain font is not available in your distros repository, delete it from the command above. Here are the 3 thing you can do to help bring standardized fonts to Linux systems.
1. Install Linux Mint fonts on your system. See the next post for this because the command line is too large for a this post.
2. Install freeware MS fonts. This will bring in the earliest MS fonts, but not anything from Win8, Win10, or Win11. To do this type:
sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
3. Copy Win fonts from a MS Win computer install the onto your Linux Machine.
a. Copy all the fonts from C:/Windows/Fonts onto a flash drive.
b. Find where your system store fonts:
(In Debian this is /usr/share/fonts)
find /usr -iname \*.ttf |head -n 20c. Create folder for the MS fonts
cd /usr/share/fonts/truetype sudo mkdir winfonts sudo cd winfontsD. As root, and copy fonts from USB stick. /media/hda1/windows/Fonts will be different on your system.
cp /media/hda1/windows/Fonts/*.ttf
sudo chown root.root *.ttf
sudo chmod 644 *.ttf
sudo mkfontdir
