New York Officials Are Encouraging People To Mask Up Again State health officials released a statement this week encouraging New Yorkers to once again wear masks in health care settings, hospitals, and nursing homes. The officials cited an increase in hospitalizations for COVID, RSV, and flu as the reason why people should wear masks. “With all three major respiratory viruses currently circulating at these levels, today we support health care providers, hospitals, and nursing homes doing everything they can to protect patients and their workforce, and recommend that health care and residential facilities advocate strongly for the use of masks within their facility to prevent transmission and ensure a healthy workforce,” the statement said. We have seen media statements from our leaders, demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. We have seen them calling the leaders of Israel war criminals, for failing to heed their call for a ceasefire. We have also seen them at every march bemoaning the loss of life in Palestine, religiously wearing scarves bearing the flag of Palestine. We hear them adding their voices to call for humanitarian corridors. We hear them insulting the leaders of Israel for cutting electricity, and not providing adequate water for people in Gaza. These are legitimate questions, and the correct calls to the government of Israel by incorrect leaders of the government of South Africa. How dare you ask of Israel to provide, that which you are unable to provide to the very people you swore to represent to the best of your ability? We have 69 murders a day. That is not even the full number but only the number we are aware of. How many more are in ditches, still to be found by our inept police? Today, fewer than 69 people were killed in Palestine, Ukraine and Russia put together, but you are busy demanding answers and accountability from these governments, while you have a greater number of killings under your watch. Most areas, particularly in the Western Cape, are being bombarded by bullets flying, without humanitarian corridors and pauses. You advocate for peace in Palestine, but are unable to provide it here at home where you govern. How much would our people appreciate a ceasefire? What kind of leaders demand and castigate other leaders, about something that is so needed locally, but cannot happen because our leaders are so concerned about world affairs, but are doing nothing about the violence on our own doorstep? A ceasefire is what we have asked for now for decades. You once tried by sending in the army, but that was only a media exercise because today that army is nowhere. Yes, we hear you scolding Israel for not proving water and electricity. But our people still draw water from rivers in some places. We go days without water in cities. The less said about electricity the better. Hammanskraal and not Hamas needs your attention right now. They continue to struggle to access safe drinking water. I just think Giyani and not Gaza should occupy your brain, as they have also been without water. The system allows commuters to load cash onto their issued FairPay cards through devices at kiosks and at taxi ranks. The services would eventually be expanded to retail stores. “The card-based project will be introduced on the Johannesburg, Pretoria and Mabopane (JPM) route. It was selected as the JPM Taxi Association has been involved in previous pilot projects and is experienced in dealing with the cashless system. This was confirmed by the brand’s social media accounts during the weekend. It started introducing these changes towards the end of 2023 with certain cafes no longer accepting cash in the latter months. These, seemingly, did not receive the social media fanfare that this most recent round did. W Café is the concessionary outlet chain it operates adjacent or inside its premises across the country.
