Living for What Truly Matters — Gideon Samuel Stephen About eight years ago, while serving as a Corps Member and studying as a Post Graduate student at ECWA Theological Seminary, Igbaja, Kwara State, God gave me the privilege of staying in a house directly opposite that of Professor Stephen Asonibare. His humility and kind-heartedness left an unforgettable imprint on my life. Truly, “by humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, honour, and life” (Proverbs 22:4). Just a few days ago, I reconnected with him. The very first question Baba asked me was not about my job, my finances, or my personal comfort. Instead, with a fatherly heart, he said: “What are you doing for the Lord at the moment?” That question struck me deeply. It reminded me that beyond titles, degrees, and earthly pursuits, what Heaven is most concerned about is our service to God and to humanity. I shared with him about the services we render through our platforms: Eternity in View Network – sharing sermons daily on WhatsApp and Telegram. Eternity in View Library – making life-changing books accessible to many. Eternity in View Academy – equipping people with digital skills and knowledge that can transform lives. He was moved, encouraged me, and then prayed for me to remain steadfast in this calling. His words echoed what Jesus Himself said in John 9:4: “I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” Beloved, this is my reflection and my question to you today: What are you doing to impact humanity? What are you doing for the Lord? What will Heaven and Earth remember you for when your time here is done? Life is not measured by what we acquire but by the eternal impact we leave behind. A Message to Our Esteemed Pastors — Gideon Samuel Stephen Dear Pastors, I deeply honor and celebrate you for answering the high call of God upon your life. This message is not written to mock or to diminish the sacrifice you make, but to humbly share a perspective that may help you and those you lead. Recently, a pastor reached out to me through Facebook Messenger, expressing his desire to join my private mentorship program. The cost was $28 (about ₦40,000), but he explained that his current salary as a SIM staff in ECWA is only ₦20,000 — making it impossible for him to afford such an opportunity. This is not an isolated story. Many pastors across Nigeria find themselves depending solely on denominational salaries or congregational support. While ministry is a sacred assignment, the financial realities of life often press heavily. Here is my gentle advice: embrace entrepreneurship and the use of digital space as a complement to ministry. In a country like Nigeria, where inflation is high, the cost of living is rising, and employment opportunities are limited, it is wisdom — not a lack of faith — to diversify one’s streams of income. Business is not contrary to ministry; in fact, it can empower ministry. The Apostle Paul himself made tents as a source of livelihood, ensuring that his basic needs were met while preaching the Gospel. Pastors in Nigeria can explore simple, honest ventures: ✓ Farming on a small scale, given Nigeria’s fertile soil. ✓ Digital opportunities such as online teaching, consulting, or content creation. ✓ Skill-based services like publishing, graphics, or even small-scale trading. When you have a sustainable source of income outside your salary, you become less financially pressured, more effective in ministry, and better positioned to serve your congregation without compromise. The truth is, we live in a country where relying on one stream of income is dangerous. Even secular professionals are diversifying to survive and thrive. As men and women of God, the same wisdom applies — not just for survival, but to model responsibility and entrepreneurship to your members. This is not a call to abandon ministry, but a call to strengthen it by ensuring you are financially stable. When your personal needs are taken care of, your mind is freer, your voice clearer, and your ministry impact stronger. With love and respect, Gideon Samuel
