When the nazis occupied Greece, they demanded a list of jews in the city. The mayor produced the list, which Bp Chrysostomos burned. Bishop Chrysostomos wrote to Hitler personally declaring that all the jews of Zakynthos were under his personal authority, and he guaranteed their protection. Not a single jew was taken from the city.
