#Rivers_River_Deltas_Canals Lakshmantirth River ▪️ The river Lakshmanatirtha river is a Right bank tributary of the river Kaveri. ▪️ It originates in the Brahmagiri hills, Kodagu or Coorg and later joins the river Kaveri at Krishnarajasagara lake in karnataka. ▪️ The Lakshmanatirtha falls or the Irupu falls is a much-visited fresh water cascade located on the river. ▪️ There are many legends surrounding this spot. The most famous is that Rama and Lakshmana reached the Brahmagiri hills, while searching for Sita. 🔆Lake Prespa ✅According to experts, of the 450 hectares of Little Prespa Lake in Albania, at least 430 hectares have been transformed into swamps or dried up. ✅It is one of the oldest tectonic lakes in Europe, and also the highest tectonic lake on the Balkan Peninsula. ✅It lies at the junction of three major geological masses: a granite massif on the East, a karstic massif belonging to Galicica on the West, and the Suva Gora on the South. ✅The region is famous for having rocks from the oldest Paleozoic form to sediments belonging to the young Neogene era. ✅It is made up of the Great Prespa Lake (Albania, Greece and the Republic of Macedonia) and Small Prespa Lake. #Places_in_news #geography

♦️ CHAD LAKE ♦️ ▪️ Why in News One of Africa’s largest freshwater bodies, Lake Chad, has shrunk by 90 per cent. Lake Chad in the Sahel spans the countries of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon and is home to 17.4 million people. It is blessed with rich aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity. The Chari River, fed by its tributary the Logone, provides over 90% of the lake’s water, with a small amount coming from the Yobe River in Nigeria/Niger. Despite high levels of evaporation, the lake is freshwater. The Lake Chad basin comprises biosphere reserves, World Heritage and Ramsar sites as well as wetlands of international conservation importance. 🔸Ꭻᴏɪɴ☞@UPSC_MAP

🔆Major Rivers and Dams of India

1) Himalayas act as an effective physical barrier for moisture bearing southwest monsoon winds. 2) Himalayas divide the Bay of Bengal branch of monsoon winds into two branches_ one branch flowing along the plain region towards northwest India and the other towards southeast Asia. 3) If the Himalayas were not present the monsoon winds would simply move in to China and most parts of the Indian sub¬ continent would not have received sufficient amounts of rainfall as of now. 4) Himalayas protect India from the cold and the dry air masses, which originates from Siberia and Central Asian region, this would have entered the Indian sub¬ continent vowing to northeast trade winds thus making the place a cold dry desert with little or no vegetation. 5) In winters, the Himalayas bifurcate the sub-tropical westerly jetstreams winds and thus aid in the formation of winter-rainfall. Thus, Himalayas are responsible for fulfilling the water requirements of more than1.3 billion population. 6) Without Himalayas, most of the place would have been a cold dry desert with little or no vegetation. 7) Also the racial profile of India would be very different as there would be very strong Mongol attacks because no natural defense would have been present and history might have been very different because of the extensive mongoloid invasion.
