Need for space to study? Welcome all Info students to Maarintie 8 (aka Tuas) and the Department of Tuta (IEM in English) on the 3rd & 4th floor premises. However... some humble wishes for co-habitation 😇 Official guidelines: Using 3rd and 4th floor premises at Tuas   The premises in Maarintie 3rd and 4th floor are working spaces for the IEM department faculty. Students are warmly welcomed to work on the premises, but there are some rules for which spaces are available for student use and how they should be used to ensure a good working environment for everyone.   The coffee rooms on the third and fourth floor are not for studying - these are for the faculty to have a break so let's respect that.   The following meeting rooms on the third floor can be used by students for group work (for individual work, there are desks, see below): 3140, 3150, 3160, 3185, 3190 (also the phone booth opposite 3190). The meeting rooms on the fourth floor are reserved for department staff. Rooms need to be reserved either through the Aalto Space or by pen&paper next to the door (if the room is free when you arrive, still mark the reservation on the paper). The use is max. 2h/session.   There are individual work stations on the third floor (areas 3151 and 3161), and the open presentation space area 3186 can also be used by students for individual or group work. When using them please consider others' needs (e.g., a good rule of thumb is to not use them for more than 4h, and respect other's needs for silence). More individual work spaces can also be found on the ground floor at the learning hub (the old library).

Sä oot enemmän kuin tarpeeksi, sä riität ja kelpaat just sellaisena kuin sä oot ❤ Sä tuut pääsemään pitkälle. Tee vähemmän opintoja ja nauti enemmän ja naura mahollisimman paljon. Osallistu lähiopetukseen, luennoille, laskareille ja vietä paljon aikaa kiltahuoneella, yhdessä opiskelu on parempaa. Ei tarvitse jaksaa sellaista elämää, jossa tuntuu että kokoajan vaan räpiköi pysyäkseen pinnalla. Tee suosiolla vähemmän kuluttavia asioita ja enemmän innostavia asioita. Tai jos ei mikään innosta niin ihan vaan lepää. Suorituskierre kun jää päälle niin elää jatkuvassa stressitilassa. Älä stressaa, nauti täffän ruoasta ja opiskele välillä. Otan sen verran kursseja, että sun illat ja viikonloput on vapaita koulujutuista. Chillaa vähä. Tee omalla tahdilla, älä vertaa ittees muihin. Kuuntele itseäsi ja jos tuntuu siltä, ota rauhassa. Nauti kaikesta, kaikki järjestyy ❤️ ihmiset sun ympärillä on se juttu, arvosta niitä. Kaikkia ei voi miellyttää, kaikki ei tykkää susta eikä sillä oo mitään tekemistä sun kanssa. Welcome to enroll in TU-E6170 - Political Organizations and Decision Making starting in the second period! Course teacher Mari Holopainen writes: Our first session is on Thursday, October 24th at 3:15 PM in the Kide Building, Meitner Lecture Room. The course is part of Info studies. Priority is given to Master’s students in Information Networks and Industrial Engineering and Management, but all students are welcome if space allows. In this course, we’ll dive into the basics of political organizations, democratic processes, decision-making, and policy influence. Key topics include: • Policy Influence in Tech and Business • Democracy and Participation • The EU’s Role and Legislative Processes • Public Speaking and Advocacy • Ministries and Legislative Drafting • Lobbying and Agenda Setting We’ll also have new, exciting guest speakers and an optional visit to the Parliament House on Tuesday, November 5th. Last year, former Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen joined us, and keynote presentations from researchers on topics like lobbying and the EU were also very well received.

Many many thanks to everyone last Friday at Phuksisitsit 🙏 🎉 I had lot of fun, and warm feeling of togetheness, and some fabulous singing(!). Weeeeellllcomeee our new phuksit, aka, IV'24 🎉️️️️ ...and happy beginning of semester to all (starting next Monday, don't panic... yet). We (Susanna, Satu, and myself) had the privilege to meet our phuksit this morning, and what a wonderful group of nice people. How about those statistics we gather every year? 79% of phuksit told us that they come within the capital area. That is 5 percentage points more than last year (I think). 60% of phuksit identified as male. This is a shift, as in past years men have been in a minority. Where did our phuksit hear about INF? 50% from a friend (still #1) 35% from Opintopolku 19% from lukion opo. 13% Athene/Prodeko event 👉 31% something else (what what? some secret channel ?!? 👀 )

A course assistant (TA) for Case Studies in Sust. Business? Our Impaktly collaboration with a handful of other Finnish companies. Why not help the cutting edge course while you take it, or if you took it the last time? You would be paid for 7h/week for 8 weeks. Starting next week (if possible). The course begins 5.9. The job would be * Arranging the course in cooperation with Impaktly (this is the 3rd time they do it, so they know what is needed). * Taking care of the students (MyCo pages, student comms, halping with practicalities). * managing the video recordings etc small technical details. How did you grade our programme, and what did you write in the feedback? (i.e., the results of the annual survey) Your grade for INF semester 2023-24: 4.35 / 5.00 This is the best in the history of the survey 🎉. Your grading for us has been between 4.00 and 4.34 in the past 6 years. My totally subjective guess is that we might be one of the best university programmes in Finland when it comes to student feedback 😎 We had 60 answers, so Monday I'll buy 60 ice creams 🍦 Chat-GPT Summary of the written feedback: Students appreciate the diverse and interesting courses offered by the program, as well as the active and clear communication. They value being heard and the responsiveness to feedback, the support services and guidance, flexibility, and the positive atmosphere. Special mentions go to concepts like AskRisto and Baristo, VDM and VJP courses, program flexibility, and attention to Swedish-speaking students. Areas for improvement highlighted include course overlaps, attendance requirements, the Studio: People and Organizations Research course, the Foundations of Science and Knowledge course, the timing of Programming 2 and Programming Studio 2 courses, and the content of master's courses. Students also call for more guidance in master's studies, improved course scheduling, and more practical courses focused on developing workplace skills. Additionally, students desire more active mentoring and collaboration with other programs. In conclusion, students overall feel satisfied with the opportunities provided by the program but see room for improvement in course planning, guidance, and communication. They seek to enhance student participation and study flow, while encouraging active mentoring and collaboration with external partners.

Yesterday we a published a very INF spirited handbook together with Aalto Executive Education on how organizations can build constantly learning org.cultures. This book is the end result of 3x workshop with business execs and future work professionals. Together with INFonians Riikka Eskola, Hilla Klemetti, Katariina Korolainen, Marianna Malkamäki and Inkeri Nora we took the workshop discussions and distilled them into this book.
