Land cover data describes the physical material present on the Earth’s surface — such as water bodies, forests, croplands, built-up areas, barren land, and grasslands.
It helps in environmental monitoring, land use planning, agriculture management, climate studies, and urban development analysis.
Two widely used free global land cover datasets include:
1. ESRI Global Land Cover (10m) – updated annually.
2. ESA WorldCover (10m) – available for 2020 and 2021.
