“I actually invested heavily in .300 blk early in my prepping journey. I even built my primary rifle around that caliber even though I don’t have a suppressor. I’ve been stubborn about it being a useful round, at least for my prepping situation/goals, but after watching some videos comparing 7.62 and .300 blk on steel plates, I realized an AK does what my .300 blk does but slightly better, and for much cheaper. After just recently being trained by someone who actually knows how to shoot and how to train others to shoot, I realized that becoming truly proficient with a firearm requires significant time at the range and quite a few rounds to practice with, even when paired with constant dry fire training. So I realized that getting as comfortable and accurate with my .300 blk as id like to be before ever taking it into a theoretical fight would end up costing an arm and a leg, which I don’t have to spare right now. since it did the same thing as an AK and I already had one, on top of not having a suppressor to capitalize on the .300 blk’s one advantage, I realized I was keeping it around for no good reason other than being a caliber hipster. If you throw on the fact that 5.56 will be more widely available in a post collapse scenario, that was enough to convince me to just take my tricked out lower off my .300 blk and put a 5.56 upper on it. But there are some situations where the .300 blk is better. I’m not calling it a usesless round by any means, it just didn’t fit my needs when it came to actually training and fighting with it. “ -My buddy, totally not me
