What is the Full form of OPD?
The full form of OPD is the Outpatient Department. An OPD is structured to be the primary point of communication among the patient and the medical professionals in a medical department. A patient who first arrives at the hospital goes straight to OPD, and then the OPD decides the unit to which a patient will go.
An OPD is typically located on the ground floor of each hospital and split into several parts such as the Department of Neurology, the Department of Gynaecology, the Department of Orthopaedics, the Department of Oncology, the Department of General Medicine and so on. The patient is finishing all the paperwork over here and going to the relevant department.
Difference between outpatient and inpatient
The distinction between an inpatient and an outpatient treatment is how long a patient needs to stay in the hospital, where the operation has been performed.
Outpatient
An outpatient is a person who is not hospitalized for 24 hours or longer but attends for care or treatment at the clinic or hospital.
Inpatient
A person who is hospitalized overnight for several days or weeks is an inpatient is known as an inpatient.
