It all bows down to one fact, most people do not want to discover the truth, because discovering that their reality is based on a a lie will shatter their egos, therefore, they'd rather defend the lie than come to terms with the truth. Most people prefer the cell/lie as it doesn't just shield them from reality, it's also comforting too.

Such is not only synonymous with just written words, but the images/videos we view on social media nowadays. Unfortunately technology has made too many of us intellectually lazy or reliant on these clickbait or ragebait platforms to form our opinions.
Just as well guns are illegal in this country as I know some people who are so terrified even of their own shadows that if they've guns, they'll literally go to sleep every night clutching them. There are people who constantly think they're in danger from people from certain demographics as that's the kind of content they consume on a daily basis.
