Chaucer’s A Wife’s Tale:
> rapist knight at King Arthur’s court is condemned to death until he can figure out the secret of what women really want
> knight spends most of his time scaring the hoes
> knight finds an ugly old hag that knows the secret
> old hag proclaims to King Arthur’s court that women want “sovereignty over their husbands and lovers and to be treated as equals”
> old hag forces rape knight to marry her
> old hag asks knight if he’d prefer a cheating beautiful wife or a loyal ugly wife
> knight says “idk, what do you think”
> old hag turns into beautiful and loyal wife by choice
