🚨 DAY 1 : 30 DAYS ETHICS ENRICHMENT SERIES 📚 Topic: Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs 📖 Meaning : The Hierarchy of Needs is a psychological framework that postulates human motivation behind any activity, through a 5-tier pyramidical model. Each level represents a different set of needs that an individual pursues to achieve fulfillment. Humans have 5 types of needs(as shown in the pyramid), the lowest one being Physiological Needs. Once these are taken care of, we move to the next order of needs. Maslow highlights that an individual moves through these levels sequentially. Initially, we focus on lower order needs and as these needs are fulfilled, we tend to focus on higher order needs. ✏️ Examples : 1️⃣ Dr. Rajendra Prasad took only 50% of his salary, saying that he did not need the rest. Rather than focusing on Lower Order Needs(of amassing property), he was dedicated towards Self-Actualisation Needs, i.e. the purpose of his life was to free India from shackles of British Rule. 2️⃣ Mahatma Gandhi dedicated his life to self-improvement and social change. By emphasizing on higher standards of morality, he propagated the belief that every individual must focus on Self-Actualisation Needs. 💬 Key Quotes : “If you deliberately plan on being less than you are capable of being, I warn you that you’ll be unhappy for the rest of your life.” Abraham Maslow 👉 PYQs where the topic can be applied : 1️⃣ Although no direct question on Maslow has been asked, you can use the concept in the following PYQ : All human beings aspire for happiness. Do you agree? What does happiness mean to you? Explain with examples. (2014) 2️⃣ This concept is Highly Useful in Case Studies. Whenever you have to choose between Ethical behavior and Personal Profit (such as money, promotion, reputation), use this concept to justify your Course of Action. You can write in the following manner : “By Choosing Option XYZ, I am prioritizing Maslow’s Higher Order Needs of Self-Actualisation ( that is, Morality), rather than merely Lower Order Physiological Needs." Hit ❤️ if you are going to dedicatedly follow this series. 📎 Stay Updated : @upscandbeyondd

🛑🛑 Essay 🛑🛑 Whenever I use to read any topper copies I use to note such examples down in my notes. The above can be used in philosophical essay's way forward. It shows holistic perspective towards life which civil servants needs. Non UPSC: Some things learnt in UPSC preparation stay with us for long, this was one such thing which has allowed myself to overlook bad experiences and learn. Do you want me to keep posting such snippets for essays? Or should I post one long document but after a few days? Depending on the reactions will post more snippets.

🚨 DAY 20: 30 DAYS ETHICS ENRICHMENT SERIES 📚 Topic: Triple Bottom Line 📖 Meaning: The Triple Bottom Line (TBL) is a framework for evaluating a company's performance based on three key pillars: Profit, People, and Planet. Profit: Economic value created by the company, including financial performance and long-term viability. 2. People: Social responsibility, including fair treatment of employees, community engagement, human rights, and contributing to social well-being. 3. Planet: Environmental sustainability, ensuring that business operations minimize harm to the environment through responsible resource use and eco-friendly practices. 💬 Key Quote: "Business is about creating long-term value for both shareholders and stakeholders, which includes the environment and society." — Ratan Tata 👉 Application: 1️⃣ Use the concept in questions related to Corporate Governance, Environment, Ethical Business, etc. 2️⃣ In Case studies where you are CEO/Senior Executy of a reputed company, justify your course of action by emphasizing on Triple Bottom Line.
