يكفي ألمُ أسنانٍ أو صداعٌ مزعج أو سوء هضمٍ لينقل الإنسانَ من الراحة إلى العذاب فيمنع عنه النوم أو الأكل أو التمتّع بأيٍّ مما كان يؤنسه قبلًا. ربّما لنزلاتِ البرد نفعٌ روحيٌ أكثرَ ممّا فيها من ضررٍ صحي لأنها—رغم تفاهتها وعدم خطورتها في غالب الأحيان—إلا أنها كفيلةٌ بتذكير الإنسان، إنْ هو أَدرَكَ وتَبَصَّرَ واتَّعَظ، بمدى ضعفه وهشاشةِ وجوده ورقّةِ جلدِه ودقّةِ عظمه. أمراضُ الجهازِ الهضمي هي أكثرها جرحًا لكرامتنا المتصوَّرة، فما تلبث إلا وتذكّرنا دومًا بضروراتِ الجسد وجوانِب الحيوان فينا، وأنّنا مهما ادّعينا التفوقَ عليه، إلا أنّ أجسادنا وحاجاتَنا لا زالت نفسَها أجسادَ الحيوان وحاجاته، وأنّنا مهما نَسَبنا أنفسَنا لوعيِنا وعقولِنا وتجاهَلنا أجسادَنا إلا أنّ وجودَنا في النهايةِ قائمٌ بها، وأنّها ليسَت قِشرةً أو وعاءً لنخلَعَها عنّا فهي ما يكوِّننا ونكوّنه. ربما لا ينافسُ هذه الأمراضَ شيءٌ إلا الأمراض الجلدية؛ إذ يكفي تهديدٌ صغيرٌ منها لتشويه أجملِ وجه وتقبيح أشهى جسد.

Perhaps that is the aim of wisdom; it doesn't teach, it reminds and orients one towards what's intuitive and matter-of-fact, yet forgotten and overlooked during the course of everyday life—since it's the intuitive and self-evident that's most easily forgotten and ignored. One does not need to memorize long philosophical treatises by heart for him to learn, for example, that humans are weak, mortal beings hanging to life by the thin strings of chance. One feels this mortality by heart much easier when one is suddenly struck down with the flu, or when he visits a cemetery. But then, not every one struck with the flu or visits the cemetery pays heed or truly feels the mortality or gains a parcel of insight and wisdom. It takes effort to pay attention, meditate, and remind oneself of these matters.

Perhaps that is the aim of wisdom; it doesn't teach, it reminds and orients one towards what's intuitive and matter-of-fact, yet forgotten and overlooked during the course of everyday life—since it's the intuitive and self-evident that's most easily forgotten and ignored.

حتى نكون دقيقين، اليوم صار عدنا علاجات جزيئية ومناعية للسرطان توفّر فرصة جيدة للعلاج وبأعراض جانبية أفضل من سابقاتها، بس ما زالن ما متوفرات بكثرة وما يعالجن غير أنواع محددة وقليلة نسبيًا من السرطان، مثل أدوية الـ TKIs والـ ATRA والـ Rituximab اللي يعالجن بعض سرطانات الدم.
