Eine Woche nach der Einnahme des strategischen Höhenzugs hat IDF-Sprecher Brigadegeneral Effie Defrin das Ausmaß einer gewaltigen unterirdischen Infrastruktur der Hisbollah offengelegt. Das weitverzweigte Tunnelsystem diente als Kommando- und Kontrollzentrum für Hunderte von Terroristen und wird derzeit im Rahmen der Bodenoffensive systematisch zerstört. Von diesem Komplex aus sollen rund 400 Raketen auf Nordisrael abgefeuert worden sein. Die Anlage wurde tief in den Fels des Beaufort-Gebiets gegraben und mit iranischer Unterstützung finanziert.
„Die Luftangriffe allein reichten nicht aus“, erklärte Defrin. „Deshalb haben wir den Feind aus einer Richtung überrascht, mit der er nicht gerechnet hatte.“
Die Aufnahmen verdeutlichen die gewaltigen Investitionen, die Hisbollah über Jahre hinweg in ihr unterirdisches Netzwerk gesteckt hat, mit dem Ziel, militärische Infrastruktur zu verbergen, Angriffe zu koordinieren und einen zukünftigen Krieg gegen Israel vorzubereiten.
