✨ Transforming Your Thoughts ✨
In the last week’s post- we read how negative thoughts can hinder personal growth and mental well-being. It suggests using journaling, guided by Islamic principles, to transform negative thoughts into a source of strength and growth. By reflecting on thoughts and actions, individuals can cultivate a positive mindset and deepen their connection with their faith. The Quranic verse Ash-Shams 91:7-9 emphasizes self-awareness and self-purification, supporting the idea of journaling for personal growth and mental well-being.
Here are some five steps to incorporate journaling and reflection into your daily routine in order to control negative thoughts:
1.Identify Negative Thoughts: Write down any negative thoughts or feelings you experience. Be honest and detailed in your descriptions.
2.Challenge Negative Thoughts with Islamic Principles: Reflect on these thoughts in light of Islamic teachings. For example, if you feel overwhelmed, remember Allah's assurance in the Quran:
لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
Translation:"Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear." Al-Baqara (The Cow) 2:286

➡️ The Dark Side of the Music Industry & The Islamic
1️⃣ The Islamic perspective on Music :
🏷️ Primary Religious Sources:Quran and Sunnah -
In Islam, the primary sources for determining what is permissible (halal) and forbidden (haram) are the Quran and Sunnah (teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him). Scholars emphasize that any ruling must trace back to these sources for authenticity. The Prophet foretold that some would wrongly make haram things halal, including music and musical instruments, as recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari, a key Islamic text.
🏷️ Why Music is Considered Haram - The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) indicated that music could distract from moral behavior by promoting immorality such as fornication and alcohol consumption. The lyrics often glorify indecency and encourage sexual provocation, which many Islamic scholars deem incompatible with a wholesome lifestyle. This industry is labeled as “filthy” due to its themes fostering lust, deception, and emotional manipulation.
2️⃣ Music’s Psychological and Neurological Effects :
🏷️ The Limbic System and Emotional Control - Scientific studies reveal that music directly affects the limbic system — the brain’s center for emotions — which can override rational thought. This is why music has the power to induce profound emotional states, from joy to trance-like conditions, impacting human behavior deeply.
🏷️ Binaural Beats and Brainwave Synchronization - In 1839, Heinrich Wilhelm Dove discovered binaural beats, auditory illusions created when different frequencies are played into each ear, affecting brainwave patterns. These beats can alter mood and mental states, as further studied by psychologist Annette Sherman in 2012, who showed that music causes brainwaves to synchronize, influencing how people perceive reality and interact socially.
🏷️ Music as a Tool for Manipulation - Music’s ability to change brainwave oscillations and synchronize group behavior has been exploited in popular culture as a subtle yet powerful tool of influence. It shapes thoughts and emotions unconsciously, effectively acting as a delivery system for ideological content.
3️⃣Societal Consequences of Music’s Influence :
🏷️ Cognitive Decline and Cultural Dumbing Down- It is observed that society faces a “massive dumbing down” due partly to constant exposure to music and media that discourage critical thinking. This cultural trend produces a population with fewer high-IQ individuals capable of independent thought, thus increasing reliance on government or external control.
🏷️ The Constant Soundscape- Losing Free Thought - Modern lifestyles are saturated with sound, from cars to personal devices, leaving little mental space for reflection. This omnipresence of music fills lives with background noise, creating an environment where distractions prevent free thought and facilitate mass influence by unseen forces.
4️⃣ Protecting Yourself from Music’s Negative Effects :
🏷️ Awareness and Mindful Consumption - Given the powerful influence music holds, Muslims and conscientious individuals must be aware of the content they consume. Limiting exposure to harmful lyrics and genres is essential to protect one’s spirituality and mental clarity.
🏷️ Seeking Spiritual and Emotional Balance - Engaging with positive, spiritually uplifting music, including nasheeds or traditional religious songs, and practicing moral discipline can help counteract the negative effects of mainstream music industry influences.

➡️ THE IMPACT OF MAGIC
🏷️ The Nature and Ruling of Magic in Islam -Magic is categorically impermissible (haram) and considered a serious spiritual violation in Islamic teachings.Activities such as learning or practicing magic tricks, fortune-telling, soothsaying, astrology, palmistry, and other divinatory practices fall under this prohibition.Engaging with magic or attempting to predict or control unseen forces conflicts directly with Islamic monotheism and teachings revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
🏷️ Magic as a Gateway to Spiritual Harm - Seemingly harmless magic, such as children’s magic trick kits or simple sleight of hand, is discouraged because it fosters love and admiration for magicians, which can lead individuals down a slippery slope toward forbidden practices.Small steps such as simple illusions may escalate into deeper involvement with occult practices, including invocation of demonic forces or “Shaitaan,” which leads to spiritual compromise.
🏷️ The Danger of Watching Magic onTelevision - Watching magicians such as David Blaine or Criss Angel is forbidden because it either involves real magic or deceitful visual tricks, both of which promote love for the magician and admiration of their magic.Islamic scholars’ consensus holds that consuming such content invalidates the individual’s prayers (Salah) for 40 days. Believing in the truth of such magic results in disbelief (kufr) and exiting Islam.
🏷️ Faithful Muslims Must Avoid Magic and Its Influences - To maintain a pure and accepted faith, Muslims must avoid all engagement with magic, horoscopes, fortune-telling, or anything resembling these acts, including passive exposure through media.

Allah says in the Qur'an:
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا
Translation:"And by the soul and He who proportioned it and inspired it with discernment of its wickedness and its righteousness, He has succeeded who purifies it." Ash-Shams (The Sun) 91:7-9

Narrated `Aisha رضي الله عن: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to invoke Allah in the prayer saying "Allahumma inni audhu bika min adhabi l-qabr, wa audhu bika min fitnati l-masihi d-dajjal, wa audhu bika min fitnati l-mahya wa fitnati l-mamat. Allahumma inni audhu bika mina l-ma'thami wa l-maghram. (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave, from the afflictions of the imposter- Messiah, and from the afflictions of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sins and from debt)." Somebody said to him, "Why do you so frequently seek refuge with Allah from being in debt?" The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "A person in debt tells lies whenever he speaks, and breaks promises whenever he makes (them)." Aisha رضي الله عنه also narrated: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in his prayer seeking refuge with Allah from the afflictions of Ad-Dajjal.
