Trump said that he would bring that to a close within a day, I think he said that to me repeatedly in private and in public. And instead, he's accelerated it, The United States is at war with Russia, and the only kind of conceivable end stage if this continues is a nuclear exchange in which everyone is killed. So this is again a kind of lunacy. Why is he doing it? Well, I don't think Trump is making this decision independently. From what I know, because I've talked to him about it an awful lot, he likes Putin, respects Putin. It's not personal or anything like that. It's a product of what all of this is caused by, and that's the fact that the US president is not really in control of the US government. He's an employee too. He doesn't have sovereignty. He is a slave to more powerful forces. And in this specific instance, the war against Russia has now become of a piece with the war against Iran. You had Ukrainian attacks on Iranian assets, so the wars have merged into a global war. It does not serve the United States. It risks the existence of the United States. It's something that Trump, I think, very sincerely said he opposed, and now he is leading it. And so again, we're getting to a structural problem, which is that the United States does not have sovereignty.
