🌎 Kazi Sohag and Monirul Islam have taken 🥇 and 🥉 places in the international Top1000 Scholar 2026 ranking by Scholarly Index.
🌾 Kazi Sohag, Head of the Laboratory of Economic Policy and Natural Resources, is named the world's leading researcher in agricultural, environmental, and natural resource economics for 2021–2025.
"It is extremely gratifying that our research is noticed at the international level. This ranking is a confirmation of the significance of our contribution to global science," he said.📈 According to RePEc, Sohag is among the top 100 young economists worldwide and ranks 2nd in Russia by publications over the past decade. His Hirsch index is 39, with over 3,600 citations. 🚜 Monirul Islam, Researcher at Laboratory of International and Regional Economics, took 3rd place in the same field. In 2025, RePEc named him among the world’s top ten young economists. His Hirsch index is 23. 🙌 Congratulations to our researchers! We wish them success in future endeavors!

On 12–14 November, GSEM UrFU will host the 21st International Conference Global Economic Trends and Regional Transformation in Ekaterinburg.
🎧 Simultaneous interpretation into English is planned for key plenary sessions, and selected sessions will be held in English. The Academic Track on 13–14 November is available in person and online.
🎓 Want to present? 12 thematic sessions accept presentations in English from AI, global economy and regional development to migration, green technologies and econometrics. Publication opportunities are also planned after the conference.

GSEM has been awarded 3 Palmes of Excellence by Eduniversal, the international ranking agency evaluating business schools worldwide.
The 3-Palme category recognises excellent business schools with reinforcing international influence. GSEM is now one of just three Russian business schools in this category.
What we especially like about the result is what the international committee highlighted: critical thinking, responsible leadership, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit in the way we prepare our students. So these three palms are thanks to our wonderful students and faculty💙

| 5 | 🌍 Two weeks abroad are great. A whole semester is a different story.
If yesterday’s Winter Schools made you think “I’d actually like to study abroad”, here’s the next step: applications for semester exchange are now open.
A semester abroad means more than changing classrooms for a few months. You study at a partner university, take courses in a different academic environment, meet people from other countries — and get enough time to actually experience everyday life there rather than just visit.
It’s also a pretty good way to find out how adaptable you really are 👀
GSEM students can apply for exchange opportunities at our partner universities and spend part of their degree abroad without putting their studies at UrFU on hold.

| 7 |  🌱 19 countries, 25 trees — and one new garden at GSEM UrFU new campus
There’s now a place at Novokoltsovsky Campus where international friendship can literally grow.
On September 12, 65 participants from 19 countries planted 25 blue spruce trees during the International Youth Festival 2026. Together, they created the Sustainable Leaders Garden — a living symbol of a more sustainable future. 🌲
The project was supported by GSEM, the UrFU Botanical Garden and the Ecosystem environmental movement.
For GSEM, sustainability is also something we study, teach and put into practice connecting environmental responsibility with management, business and international cooperation.
The festival is over, but this particular part of it is staying on campus. And we’ll get to watch it grow 💚

| 10 |  👍UrFU Rises Significantly in the Shanghai Ranking 2026
👩🎓This year, Ural Federal University has crucially improved its position in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which is compiled annually by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.
⚡️In the global standings, the university entered the 701–800 group, and in Russia it retained its fourth place – this is the best result among universities outside Moscow and St. Petersburg. | 317 |
| 11 |  GSEM research is becoming more visible in China 🇷🇺🇨🇳
Our journal R-Economy, published by the Graduate School of Economics and Management together with the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has become the first UrFU journal to be indexed in CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure).
If you've heard of Scopus or Web of Science, think of CNKI as their Chinese counterpart – the country's largest academic platform used by universities, researchers, and students across China.
This means that the full archive of R-Economy (since 2017) will soon become available to millions of readers, making research from GSEM more accessible to one of the world's largest academic communities.
The journal focuses on regional and urban economics, sustainable development, BRICS countries, and the Global South, which are increasingly important for international research and collaboration.

Today, GSEM UrFU has welcomed participants of the Summer University 2026 — an international educational project bringing together over 400 students from 16 countries at Ural Federal University.
Over the next two weeks, they'll explore sustainable development, AI, digital transformation, international business, and innovation, work in multicultural teams, develop projects with industry partners, and discover both Ekaterinburg and the Urals.
Our English-language track, Sustainable Leadership & Impact Management, Creative Tech: ESG, AI & Communications, has already kicked off with its first lecture delivered by Professor Zhanna Belyaeva, Academic Director of GSEM.
As our International Affairs Office Director Ekaterina Demchenko puts it, international programs are about much more than learning new concepts, they help students learn to work across cultures, understand different perspectives, and develop the global mindset today's leaders need.

The 13th Doing Business in Russia International Summer School is underway at GSEM!
The Doing Business in Russia International Summer School is now in full swing at GSEM!
More than 50 participants from Russia and around the world are working in international teams, developing startup ideas, meeting entrepreneurs, and exploring how business works in one of the world's largest emerging markets.
But international education isn't only about lectures and workshops.
It's also about getting out of the classroom, discovering a new city together, trying something new (yes, even paddleboarding!), and building the kind of friendships that make teamwork even stronger.
Over the next week, participants will continue visiting innovative companies, attending INNOPROM 2026, and turning their ideas into startup projects.

| 17 |  🎓 Not every graduation goes exactly as planned.
Sometimes it rains. Sometimes things don't go quite the way you imagined. And somehow... those are the moments you remember most.
Last weekend, thousands of UrFU graduates celebrated the end of one journey and the beginning of another. Despite the weather, despite the unexpected twists, the square in front of the university was full of smiles, hugs, photos, and people who had spent years learning, growing, and building friendships together.

| 18 |  +2🇨🇳 Ten days, countless memories, and a few tears at the end 🥹
Our GSEM students have completed the International Summer School at SWUFE in Chengdu, one of China's leading universities in economics and business.
Over two weeks, they explored Chinese companies, worked on projects, discovered Sichuan culture, and, of course, met students from around the world. The programme ended with final presentations and a closing ceremony, where all participants received certificates.
💬 "This was our first experience studying abroad, and it turned out to be truly special. We were amazed by the campus, fell in love with Chengdu, tried Sichuan hot pot, and even met the famous pandas. But what we'll remember most are the people. In just ten days, we became close friends, so saying goodbye was warm, and a little sad," shared Arina Kim and Lada Brazhnikova, first-year students of International Economics and Business.
That's probably the best part of international mobility. You come back with new knowledge, but also with stories, memories, and friends scattered around the world. 🌍💙 | 372 |
| 19 |  +4🇨🇳 GSEM students and staff are spending this week in one of China's leading business universities
Our team has joined the International Summer School at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) in Chengdu — one of China's top universities in economics, finance, and business.
The program has only just begun, but the first day has already been packed with new connections, campus tours, team projects, and cultural discoveries. Students met participants from other countries, explored the university, and learned more about the history and traditions of Sichuan Province.
And this is just the start!
In the coming days, they'll visit Chinese companies, explore Chengdu, meet the region's famous giant pandas, and get a closer look at how business and innovation work in one of the world's most dynamic economies.
🌍 International mobility isn't only about studying abroad. Sometimes it's about seeing the world from a completely different perspective.
