✅ The researchers showed that the Azores High expansion is driven by external climate forces and that the only external forcing that produces this signal in the industrial era is atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations.
✅ The study identified a robust increase in the frequency of extremely large Azores High Area (AHA) events and an overall expansion signal in the winter Azores High over the past 100 years.
✅Azores High expansion emerged after 1850 and strengthened in the twentieth century, consistent with anthropogenically driven warming, according to the report

🔵 Azores High is a subtropical high pressure system that extends over the eastern subtropical North Atlantic and western Europe during winter
🔴 It is associated with anticyclonic winds in the subtropical North Atlantic.
🔵 It is formed by dry air aloft descending the subtropics and coincides with the downward branch of the Hadley Circulation.
🔵Mediterranean, including the Iberian Peninsula, primarily occupied by Spain and Portugal, will see a 10-20 per cent drop in winter rainfall over the coming century
🔴These projected changes make agriculture of the Iberian region some of the most vulnerable in Europe. The study projected: 👇👇
Olive-growing regions in southern Spain will suffer a 30 per cent decline in production by 2100
Cultivation area in grape-growing regions across the Iberian Peninsula will shrink 25-99 per cent by 2050 due to severe water deficits that will render land unsuitable for viticulture.
Extremely dry winter in Western Mediterranean due to expansion of ‘Azores High’

🔵 Above solutions👆 to Amarnath Cave flashflood can also be used for other landslide prone areas and pilgrimages.
✅Such solutions can be used while writing answers to the Case Studies --GS-1V (disaster related )
🔴General:-
✅The use of new construction techniques, methods, materials and machineries could be resorted to ensure quick and safe construction.
✅The work could be done in phased manner to suit the budgets of the shrine Board.
✅ The work is challenging , but not impossible; particularly in view of the facts that our aim should be to contain the loss of men and property and the aftermath costs.
🔴LONG TERM MEASURES:-
👉 establishing cable cars, aerial Rope ways or tunnels, electric / solar power would be prime requirement, besides the standby sources.
👉Under ground cables , for longitivity and to avoid the severe winter vagaries.
⛰️⛰️Though Solar Power would be a big challenge , given the conditions of winter heavy snowfalls⛰️⛰️
🔴SHORT TERM MEASURES:-
To overcome and avoid such disasters , the following short term measures by the Amarnath Shrine Board may be considered for implementation:-
👉 restriction of the camping facility near Holy Cave only for the few people like Pujaris, security personnel, Medical Staff, maintenance staff, Communication Room, NDRF/SDRF Staff, Water Supply and Electricity Staff and one Emergency Helipad etc
👉 regulate the flow of yatris in such a way that no yatri is compelled to stay within the gorge area from Sant Singh Pari to Holy Cave, which is landslide prone area
👉the widening of track between Panjtarni and Holy Cave, on the right bank of Amaravati is exigent.
👉 the two way track for Ponies and Yatris (Up and Down), which is achievable within affordable budget and time, needs to be thought of.
👉The geological challenge can not be overemphasized;maintenance challenges need to studied, diagnosed and treated for perennial solutions
✅ IIT, Soil Conservation Experts, hydrological experts, transport engineers, structural engineers, economists, metreologists and geological survey of India need to be utilized for finding ways👆👆

🔴 What Is a Windfall Tax?
👉A windfall tax is a tax levied by governments against certain industries when economic conditions allow those industries to experience above-average profits.
👉 Windfall taxes are primarily levied on companies in the targeted industry that have benefited the most from the economic windfall, most often commodity-based businesses.
🔴KEY TAKEAWAYS
✅A windfall tax is a surtax imposed by governments on businesses or economic sectors that have benefited from economic expansion.
✅The purpose is to redistribute excess profits in one area for the greater social good; however, this can be a contentious ideal.
✅Some individual taxes, such as inheritance tax or taxes on lottery or game show winnings, can also be construed as a windfall tax.
