If President Trump decides to strike, his window of opportunity is roughly the two weeks before Ramadan begins. Why before? The answer is simple – to avoid the perception that the United States is attacking the Muslim world during its holiest month. Such a narrative alone could ignite unrest in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the Gulf states – American allies that already fear Iranian retaliation. Yet even now, we are not without hope. History does not move by the will of men alone. The God who rules over nations is neither surprised nor shaken. Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Khamenei, said Iran is prepared to escalate if diplomacy fails. Shamkhani said Tehran would move from indirect to direct talks with the U.S. only if current negotiations succeed, stressing that any dialogue would be limited strictly to the nuclear issue. Asked about Khamenei’s warning that a future war would have regional consequences, Shamkhani said a wider conflict would be triggered by enemy military deployments and would reach even the most distant locations from which threats against Iran originate. When questioned on whether Israel would be targeted if the U.S. attacks Iran, Shamkhani said Washington and Israel are indistinguishable in such a scenario. “If the U.S. attacks, Israel will be involved, and we will respond accordingly,” he said.
