Healed work hits different when time proves the quality.
These leg pieces were completed 7 years ago across just two trips with a dedicated client visiting all the way from the US. Skulls, snakes, and cherry blossoms (Sakura)—a classic Japanese motif built to last.
Captured here with custom film recipes to match the raw, aged vibe of the ink.

Doing this piece 100% by hand using traditional tebori — no machines involved. Slow process, but the depth and texture of hand-tooling make every minute worth it.

Starting a full leg sleeve featuring a colorful snake and sakura blossoms. For today’s session, we focused strictly on graywash/black shading for the lower leg background to set up that deep contrast before moving on to the color.

Today’s session was all about Kintaro (the Golden Boy) taking down a giant wild boar. To make the figures pop and give the piece maximum contrast, we saturated the entire background in solid black.

Over 10 years of trust and dedication! 🐉✨
We started this journey back in 2014 when my client first traveled all the way from Finland. We began with his arms—the first sleeve featuring a classic Koi carp with autumn leaves, followed by a second sleeve dedicated to the mythical Kirin.
Fast forward to today: he’s back in the chair, and we are officially moving on to his legs! A full post detailing the new leg project is coming soon, so stay tuned.

The Dragon’s Path: 10 Years of Skin, History, and Japanese Art 🐉
A regular client of mine flew in for another session—we are continuing the massive work on his back featuring a dynamic dragon. But few know how it all started 10 years ago!
* 10 years ago: We started with an unconventional cover-up on the forearm. The old lettering was covered with a dark catfish, while an engraving of a cat playing with a fish surrounded by waves and maple leaves was placed on the shoulder.
* The next step: The second sleeve—a stylized, light Asian tiger meticulously licking its paw.
* The finale (today): A majestic full-back dragon. We are executing this piece in a mixed technique: outlines are done with machines for absolute precision, while shading and coloring are done entirely by hand with rods (tebori). It is tebori that provides that unique velvety softness and a deep connection to tradition.
