A 66-year-old man who released rats near a mosque in a series of racially motivated hate crimes has avoided imprisonment. Edmund Fowler targeted Sheffield Grand Mosque on four separate occasions between May and June, bringing wild rodents to the site. CCTV footage showed him removing a cage from the trunk of his car and releasing the rats onto the pavement outside the mosque. In mobile phone videos filmed by Fowler himself, he could be heard speaking to the rats, saying things like, “guess where you’re going,” “say bye bye,” and “I’ll point you in the right direction.” Fowler, admitted to four charges of racially aggravated harassment at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court. Fowler was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months. He was also prohibited from approaching any mosque or visiting certain areas of the city for the same period. Court footage showed Fowler parking near Sheffield Grand Mosque on Grimesthorpe Road, where he shouted racist insults at people entering the building.

On this day in 2014, the Israeli occupation forces bombed and killed four young boys who were playing football at a beach in Gaza. The boys: Ismail Mohammed Bakr (9), Zakaria Ahed Bakr (10), Ahed Atef Bakr (10), Mohamed Ramez Bakr (11), were all cousins and their killings were witnessed by journalists from around the world, who were at a hotel only a few hundred metres away. Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported Allāh's Messenger ﷺ as saying that Allāh, the Exalted and Glorious, thus stated: “I am near to the thought of My servant as he thinks about Me, and I am with him as he remembers Me. And if he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My Heart, and if he remembers Me in assembly I remember him in assembly, better than his (remembrance), and if he draws near Me by the span of a palm, I draw near him by the cubit, and if he draws near Me by the cubit I draw near him by the space (covered by) two hands. And if he walks towards Me, I rush towards him.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2675a]

Rahma Ayad, a 26-year-old Algerian nursing trainee was stabbed to death in the stairwell of her apartment building in Hanover, Germany. According to police and eyewitnesses, neighbours heard her cries for help and alerted authorities. Today is the 30the# anniversary of the #Srebrenica Genocide where 8372+ Bosnian Muslims were executed by Serbian forces, purely because of their faith. May Allah grant them the highest ranks in Jannah and bring their oppressors to justice.

Narrated by Asmāʾ رضي الله عنها, Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said, "Give (in charity) and do not give reluctantly lest Allāh should give you in a limited amount; and do not withhold your money lest Allāh should withhold it from you." [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2591]

His mother said he would often tell her that he could see flames and smell burning bodies, sometimes waking in the night in violent fits, believing he was back in combat. Narrated Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه‎: The Prophet ﷺ said, "If Allāh loves a person, He calls Jibrīl saying, 'Allah loves so and-so; O Jibrīl! Love him.' Jibrīl would love him and make an announcement amongst the inhabitants of the Heaven. 'Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him also,' and so all the inhabitants of the Heaven would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth." Sayyid al-Istighfār: The Best Prayer for Seeking Forgiveness Narrated Shaddād ibn Aws رضي الله عنه: The Prophet (ﷺ) said "The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allāh is: اللهم أنت ربي، لا إله إلا أنت ، خلقتني وأنا عبدك، وأنا على عهدك ووعدك ما استطعت أعوذ بك من شر ما صنعت أبوء لك بنعمتك علي، وأبوء بذنبي، فاغفر لي فإنه لا يغفر الذنوب إلا أنت The Prophet (ﷺ) added. "If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise." [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6306] Transliteration: Allāhumma anta rabbī, lā ilāha illā anta, khalaqtanī wa-anā ʿabduka, wa-anā ʿalā ʿahdika wa-waʿdika mā’istaṭaʿtu, aʿūdhu bika min sharri mā ṣanaʿtu abūʾu laka bi-niʿmatika ʿalayy, wa-abūʾu laka bidhanbī, fa’ighfir lī fa-innahu lā yaghfir al-dhunūba illā ant Translation: O Allāh, You are my Lord, there is no God but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I abide by Your covenant and promise (to honour it) as best as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil that I have committed. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for surely none can forgive sins but You.

Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh رضي الله عنه reported Allāh's Messenger ﷺ as saying: “Be on your guard against committing oppression, for oppression is a darkness on the Day of Resurrection, and be on your guard against stinginess for stinginess destroyed those who were before you, as it incited them to shed blood and make lawful what was unlawful for them.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2578]

While performing in Abu Dhabi, Dave Chappelle blasted DJ Khaled for staying silent on the genocide in Gaza. During his set, someone in the crowd shouted DJ Khaled’s name, and Chappelle didn’t hold back: “DJ Khaled, let me tell you something. For a Palestinian, this man is awfully quiet right now. Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported Allāh's Messenger ﷺ as saying: “Avoid suspicion, for suspicion is the gravest lie in talk and do not be inquisitive about one another and do not spy upon one another and do not feel envy with the other, and nurse no malice, and nurse no aversion and hostility against one another. And be fellow-brothers and servants of Allāh.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2563a]

Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported Allāh's Messenger ﷺ as saying: Do you know who is poor? They (the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ) said: A poor man amongst us is one who has neither dirham with him nor wealth. He ﷺ replied: The poor of my Ummah would be he who would come on the Day of Resurrection with prayers and fasts and Zakat but (he would find himself bankrupt on that day as he would have exhausted his funds of virtues) since he hurled abuses upon others, brought calumny against others and unlawfully consumed the wealth of others and shed the blood of others and beat others, and his virtues would be credited to the account of one (who suffered at his hand). And if his good deeds fall short to clear the account, then his sins would be entered in (his account) and he would be thrown in the Hell-Fire. [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2581]

Saturday 5th July is the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ. The Prophet ﷺ said: "I seek from Allāh that fasting on the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ may atone for the sins of the preceding year." [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1163a]
