Islamic Reminders

Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allāh. And those with him are firm with the disbelievers and compassionate with one another. You see them bowing and prostrating in prayer, seeking Allāh’s bounty and pleasure. The sign of brightness can be seen on their faces from the trace of prostrating in prayer. This is their description in the Torah. And their parable in the Gospel is that of a seed that sprouts its tiny branches, making it strong. Then it becomes thick, standing firmly on its stem, to the delight of the planters - in this way Allāh makes the believers a source of dismay for the disbelievers. To those of them who believe and do good, Allāh has promised forgiveness and a great reward. [Sūrah al-Fath, Verse 29]

ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-ʿAbbās رضي الله عنه‎ reported: He spent (one night) in the house of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. He (the Prophet ﷺ) got up, brushed his teeth and performed ablution and said: "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the day and night there are signs for people of reason." [Sūrah Āli ʿImrān, Verse 190], to the end of the Sūrah. He then stood up and prayed two rakʿah, standing, bowing and prostrating himself at length in them. Then he finished, went to sleep and snored. He did that three times, six rakʿahs altogether, each time cleaning his teeth, performing ablution, and reciting these verses. Then he observed three rakʿahs of Witr. The Muʾadhdhin then pronounced the ʾAdhān and he went out for prayer and was saying: "O Allāh! place light in my heart, light in my tongue, place light in my hearing, place light in my eyesight, place light behind me, and light in front of me, and place light above me, and light below me. O Allāh! grant me light." [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 763l]

On this day in 2004, an earthquake in the Indian Ocean caused a tsunami which devastating damage to surrounding countries. Narrated Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه: Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said, "If one says one-hundred times in one day: لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ‏ One will get the reward of manumitting ten slaves, and one-hundred good deeds will be written in his account, and one-hundred bad deeds will be wiped off or erased from his account, and on that day he will be protected from the morning till evening from Satan, and nobody will be superior to him except one who has done more than that which he has done.” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 3293] Transliteration: Lā ilāha illAllāhu, waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shaiʾin qadīr Translation: There is no god but Allah alone, without any partner. The Kingdom and praise belongs to Him and He has power over everything.

Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High, Who created and perfectly fashioned all, and Who ordained precisely and inspired accordingly, and Who brings forth green pasture, then reduces it to withered chaff. We will have you recite the Qurʾān, [O Prophet] so you will not forget any of it, We will facilitate for you the Way of Ease. So always remind with the Qurʾān - even if the reminder is beneficial only to some. Those in awe of Allah will be mindful of it. But it will be shunned by the most wretched, who will burn in the greatest Fire, where they will not be able to live or die. Successful indeed are those who purify themselves, remember the Name of their Lord, and pray. But you deniers only prefer the life of this world, even though the Hereafter is far better and more lasting.
