[DIFFERENCE BTW DESIRE & WILL] There is a difference between desire and will. #Desire is an attraction by an exterior force, a relation between man and external objects, like a hungry man drawn by food, or sexual attraction. Even sleep is an attraction. So is the desire for rank and position. But resolution is some thing #internal, which liberates one from the urges of desire. It places desires at the disposal of will-power to employ them as it considers expedient.  Shaheed Mutahari Spiritual discourse (the criteria for humanity 1) http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

IMAM ALI (AS) & HUMANITARIAN VALUES 1400 YEARS BEFORE [Imam] #Ali had declared this long before the #humanistic philosophy of the twentieth century claimed it as an ideal. When he heard that a governor appointed by him had attended a #feast, he wrote him a letter of protest which is quoted in the Nahjul Al Balagha. It is not mentioned what kind of a feast it had been, whether there had been drinking or gambling or dancing. The governor was considered #guilty by Hadrat Ali because he had participated in an #aristocratic feast which was not attended by any #poor people. He says, "I never believed a governor and representative of mine would attend such a party of the nobility." FRIENDS & ENEMIES OF IMAM ALI (AS) If the personality of #Ali (as) was not #distorted today, and was presented as it #really was, then many of those who now claim to be his friends would find themselves among his #enemies. Excerpt from the Jazebe va dafe'eye Ali (The Attraction and Repulsion of Ali (as)), p. 98 http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

THE MEANING OF PATIENCE The term ‘patience’ in the holy Qur’an has a different meaning than what is intended by the average person. ‘Patience’, according to the holy Qur’an, means to #stand and #resist against various #hardships and #difficulties, but in common parlance, it means to fold one’s arms and sit waiting. From the Qur’anic perspective, the term has a positive sense and requires #will and #power. Murtada Mutahhari, Excerpt from Dictums and Admonitions. http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

[REAL SERVANTS OF GOD - A JOURNEY TOWARDS GOD] The human being, through #worship, will be a real servant of God and a real servant has a true #affinity to #God.  In other words, to be a real servant of God implies a sacred #journey which culminates in affinity to God. [MIGRATION AS TRAVELLING IS A VALUE] If we consider #migration to mean #travelling to other places the question arises whether travelling is better than staying in one place. In Islam, travel is praised though not as a permanent activity similar to a #gypsy life. In the same way, staying permanently in a village or a town all one's life is a form of #enslavement which is not recommended since it weakens one's #soul and spirit. #Travel, especially if one is equipped with knowledge gamed at home, is most profitable, while for an ignorant person, it is of little value. Even studying books cannot supply the #maturity that travel produces in one's spirit.  Shaheed Mutahari Migration & Jihad II https://t.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

[NOBILITY FROM THE VIEWS OF IMAM HUSSAIN (AS) - LIFE WITH DIGNITY & HONOR] We have in hand many sayings of this kind belonging to Ali, peace be upon him, but few quotations from his two sons, a result of the despotic conditions of their time. But in the books containing the words of Imam Husain, peace be upon him, the question of narrowness of the spirit is noticed abundantly, particularly his sayings in the last moments before his #martyrdom, blaming those who had sold themselves to #tyrants. He says, "If you are not religious and do not fear the Resurrection, at least be free men in your world." In his discourse in Mecca, he says that his #spirit does not allow him to live and see such corrupt conditions, let alone be a part of it. Again he says, "Verily I consider death to be nothing but felicity and life with these tyrants to be anything but misery." By this he means that it is an honor for him not to be amongst such people who bring nothing but weariness and sorrow to his #soul. THE EFFECT OF TRUTH ON PURE SOULS & ILL SOULS The saying that #truth is sweet and pleasurable - it is only applicable to those #personalities and #souls that are pure, without #bias, yearning for the truth. However, for a diseased and ill #soul, sometimes, truth may be the most bitter entity to it - to the point in which it asks "If this is the truth, kill me so that I do not #embrace it." - Shaheed Motahhari (ra) Source: حکمت ها و اندرزها، ج۱، ص۲۲۰ http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

[THE PROPHETS & SPIRITUAL FREEDOM] The Prophets are sent to preserve the #spiritual freedom of humanity. What does that mean? It means preventing human #honor, #humanity, #intelligence and #conscience from being subjugated to its own #lust, #passion and #love of profits. If you overcome your passion, you are free. If you conquer your lust and not vice versa, you are free.  Shaheed Mutahari Spiritual discourses (Spiritual freedom 2) http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

[DRIVE OUT THE ENEMIES WHO OCCUPIED YOUR HOMES] The Prophet's #companions said, "We are not like Moses' tribe." When this tribe reached near #Palestine, they said to Moses, 'You and your God can go and fight the enemy, and we will sit here until everything is all right." Moses asked, "What do you think is your duty? Your duty is to drive out the enemy who has occupied your home." The Prophet's companions said, "We are not like Moses' tribe. We will do whatever you #command."  Thus, waiting for relief means aiding Imam #Mahdi (atj) in fighting and #reforming the world.  Shaheed Mutahari (Migration & Jihad 1) http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

[THE QUALITIES OF COMPANIONS OF IMAM MAHDI (ATFS)]   There is a description of the #companions of Imam #Mahdi, the twelfth Imam, in various narrations saying: رُهْبانٌ بِاللَّيلِ لُيوثٌ بِالنَّهارِ "All night, they are monks (solitude & spirituality) and in daytime lions." STRONG & STEADFAST The Quran says, "Faint not, neither sorrow; you shall be the upper ones if you are #believers." (3:133) Islam does not allow #weakness in religion. Will Durant says in his History of Civilization that no religion but Islam calls upon its followers to be so #strong and #steadfast. Abel & Cain ... Quranic view of Human nature The story of Abel and Cain is one of the most magnificent stories in the #Quran, which describes the Quranic view of a man who has attained #belief and the ideal and is freed from the bondages of #nature, #society and #self. How #steadfast he is in the way of his faith! While the other is inclined towards something which is quite the opposite of it. [THE DEATH & ITS CONNECTION BTW BEING SUCCESSFUL & UNSUCCESSFUL] The relationship between this #world and the next and between the #soul and the #body is of this very nature. To those who have this outlook on the world but who fail in practical #life because of their #lethargy and #malpractices the idea of death naturally appears to be dreadful and terrible. In fact, they are afraid of #death because they fear the #consequences of their own deeds. But the #attitude of those who are #successful in their practical life is naturally that of the #student who has paid his whole-hearted attention to his studies and of the #farmer who has worked hard. Such a student and such a farmer yearns for his return to home but does not think of leaving his task incomplete.  The #saints are like the successful students. They long for death which means going into the next world. Every moment they impatiently wait for it. Imam Ali (a.s) has said about them, "If Allah had not fixed the time of death their souls would not have remained in their bodies for a moment because of their desire for recompense and fear of retribution". At the same time they do not run after death, for they know that it is only this life which gives them an #opportunity to work and attain #spiritual development. They know that the longer they live, the greater will be #perfection they will achieve. Hence they resist. Thus, we know that it is not contradictory that the holy persons on the one hand considers death to be #desirable and on the other hand resist it and pray for a long life. Addressing the Jews who claimed to be the friends of Allah, the holy Qur'an says: If you are friends of Allah (as you claim to be) then wish for death. (Surah al-Jum ah, 62:6).  Shaheed Mutahari The Martyr, p 51 - 52 http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

PROPHETS ROLE TO GUIDE TOWARDS PERFECTION Naturally the #mission of the #prophets, too, is believed unanimously to facilitate man's #perfection and to aid him to remove the #deficiencies which neither he, as an individual, nor his society is able to remove. It is only with the aid of their #divine #revelations that he can advance towards enhancing perfection. Shaheed Mutahari  Goal of Life http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) - THE GREAT CHARACTER The Holy Prophet (PBUH) #hated the grandeurs and majesty so much that his whole life is full of such events. If he wanted to walk somewhere, if some people wanted to move behind him, he would not allow it. If he was riding and a pedestrian wanted to come with him, he would have said, brother! You have to choose one of these things: either you go ahead and I will come behind you, or I will go and you come next. Or sometimes, if it was possible for two people to ride, he would say: let's ride together. Should I ride while you walk?! Such a thing I don't like. It was impossible that he allows to move on horseback and a person on foot. When he was sitting in the gathering, he would say sit in the shape of a ring so that our gathering does not have a top or a bottom. If I sit at the top of the gathering and you are there, you will be part of my showing of glory and pomp, and I don't want that. The Prophet (pbuh) did not violate this #principle until he was alive. Shaheed Mutahari Siri Dar Sireh Nabavi, p. 98 http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

[THE SPIRITUAL LEVEL OF COMPANIONS OF PROPHET (PBUH)]   There is another narration about the Prophet's companions, which says: "The Prophet went one day to visit the companions at Safa according to his habit. It was between dawn and sunrise. He saw a young man staggering along, his eyes sunk in their socket, and looking very pale. The Prophet asked him: "How did you begin your morning?" He answered: "I have begun it with certainty," meaning what "You have told us through the tongue and ear, I have found it through insight". The Prophet said: "There is a sign for everything. What is the sign of your certainty?" He answered: "Its sign is that it keeps me thirsty in daytime and sleepless at night." meaning his certainty does not allow him to break his fast or to sleep, The Prophet said: "This is not enough. I want further signs." He answered: " Now that I am in this world I have a vision of the next world and I hear the voices of those who are in both heaven and hell. Let me name those of your followers who are in heaven and those in hell. Then, the Prophet asked him: "What is your wish?" He answered: Martyrdom in the way of God." Thus, this man is a true #Muslim with that wish and in the way he spends his days and nights. It is his feeling for God that has produced his other feeling of #pain. The Qur'an says: "O you who believe! Seek assistance through patience and prayer; surely Allah is with the patient." (Sura al-Baqarah, 2: 153).
