Sergei Potapenko and Ivan Turogin are charged wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. They are accused of scamming hundreds of thousands of people. It is alleged that they operated a pyramid scheme and bought luxury cars and real estate with the funds raised. In July 2018, the cloud mining service HashFlare stopped servicing contracts allegedly “because of unprofitability”. In reality, the company did not even have the announced amount of equipment.
