🤑 5 Bitcoin Mining Myths People Still Believe Bitcoin mining has been around for more than 15 years, yet there are still plenty of misconceptions about how it works. Let’s break down five common myths — from “mining at home is the easiest option” to “mining will disappear once the last BTC is mined.” Let’s go! 🔹 Myth #1: The More TH/s, the More Profitable the ASIC Not always. Hashrate shows how much computing power an ASIC has, but it doesn’t tell you how efficient it is. Two ASICs can have similar hashrates while consuming very different amounts of electricity. That’s why it’s also important to look at J/TH – the amount of energy consumed per terahash. 🔹 Myth #2: If BTC Falls, Mining Immediately Becomes Unprofitable Bitcoin’s price definitely affects mining revenue, but it’s only one part of the equation. Network difficulty, transaction fees, electricity costs, and ASIC efficiency all matter too. So a drop in BTC price doesn’t automatically mean that every miner is operating at a loss. 🔹 Myth #3: A Bitcoin Block Always Pays Miners Only 3.125 BTC No. 3.125 BTC is the base block reward, but miners also receive the transaction fees included in the block. For example, the famous block #840,000 generated more than 40.75 BTC in total: 3.125 BTC in block rewards plus around 37.6 BTC in transaction fees. 🔹 Myth #4: If You Own an ASIC, You Have to Keep It at Home ASICs can be hosted in specialized data centers equipped with the necessary power infrastructure, cooling, internet connectivity, monitoring, and technical maintenance. The owner can monitor the equipment and its performance online. 🔹 Myth #5: Once All 21 Million BTC Are Mined, Miners Will No Longer Be Needed The last Bitcoin is expected to be mined around 2140, but miners do much more than issue new coins. They confirm transactions and help secure Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work network. 👾 BTC Is Rising – What Happens to Mining Profitability? Bitcoin’s price can change within hours, while mining difficulty doesn’t react to the market immediately. It is adjusted approximately every 2,016 blocks — roughly once every two weeks. 🟠 This creates an interesting situation. If BTC rises sharply, the dollar value of the coins mined increases almost immediately, while network difficulty remains unchanged for some time. For example, all else being equal, if the price of BTC rises by 10%, the dollar value of the same amount of mined BTC also increases by approximately 10%. Meanwhile, competition, as reflected by the current mining difficulty, remains at the same level. ☝️ However, this advantage may not last long. Higher profitability can encourage more mining power to come online, increasing the network hashrate. At the next difficulty adjustment, mining difficulty may rise as well. That’s why mining economics are constantly changing: BTC price can move today, hashrate can follow, while network difficulty responds later. 🫶 For miners, what matters is not only the current price of Bitcoin, but also where the network is within this cycle.
