HISTORIC INDIA-UK FREE TRADE AGREEMENT TO BE SIGNED India and the United Kingdom are set to sign a landmark Free Trade Agreement during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK. This is India’s first major bilateral trade pact with a developed nation in over a decade and follows nearly three years of negotiations. Key trade benefits include: Duty-free access for 99% of Indian goods to the UK market Tariff reductions on UK exports like Scotch whisky, automobiles, cosmetics, and medical devices Preferential access for Indian EVs and hybrid vehicles Short-term entry for Indian yoga instructors, chefs, and artists Social security exemption for Indian professionals in the UK, saving nearly Rs 4,000 crore annually Sectors in India poised to benefit include textiles, footwear, auto components, gems and jewellery, engineering, and chemicals. Companies like Tata Motors, Arvind Ltd, and Bharat Forge are likely to gain. This agreement is expected to significantly enhance bilateral investment and trade ties between both nations.
