3	Hope Is a dangerous drug. I know this is not a popular thing to say, but hope IS a dangerous drug. And of course, so is hopelessness. Both are very common patterns in the Child archetype, which can struggle with navigating life's biggest challenges: life, death, and sacred purpose. What people don't realize is that hope and hopelessness come as a pair. That's how the unconscious works. It sets up pairs of opposite experiences that send you swinging on a pendulum between hope and hopelessness. For example, if you've been struggling with something in your life—maybe a relationship that's important to you, or an obligation of some kind—you might hope, even against hope, that things will change. But when they don't change, you succumb to the poison of hopelessness. When the pain becomes intolerable, you go back to hoping against hope. But nothing changes. You just get intoxicated (literally) and exhausted. Some people simply want you to tell them that everything will be okay. This was asked of me recently. It was tempting to say, "Yes, everything is going to be okay," but I know by now that giving them a dose of hopium wasn't going to give them the best chance of breaking through the programming. No one wants to hear, "No, everything will not be okay." But the reality is that, in the end, everything will not be okay. Life happens. Loss happens. Disillusionment happens. Health issues happen. Breakdowns happen. Challenges happen. Death happens. So would you rather be high on hopium, lost in hopelessness, and going back and forth between the two that is so common for the Child archetype? Or would you rather get free of that pendulum altogether and answer your sacred calling? What people don't see is how expensive the pendulum of hope is. Left uninterrupted, it drains life energy day after day, further disabling you from dealing with a situation as best you can, facing disappointment as best you can, and giving your all where effort is needed. You may have noticed it already like me, that while reality is not always what I want to see and feel, it is what I need and therefore want. So rather than looking for signs of hope, I look for breadcrumbs to follow. I look for places inside myself that argue with doing what I can do. I find the programs that threaten me and compel me to follow them. Because, as the old adage goes, know thyself. So much of ourselves is hidden from ourselves. Often others can see it, but we don't see it in ourselves. And that's why Micah Ellars and I have been putting together an experiential way for the rare souls in my community to get to know themselves much more intimately. To see themselves on these programmed pendulums that are rooted in archetypal patterns of behaviour. The archetypes of the Hero's Journey provide the map. And what Micah calls "scene work" brings that map to life. Some call it role-playing, but it goes beyond that because of his background in Gurdjieff's work with false personalities. The result is that you stop hoping your way through life. You stop hanging onto hope by your fingernails. You stop trying to outrun the hopelessness lurking in the background. And you begin cultivating your essential self—your real "I"—the part of you that is hungry to grow. 6	Over the last few weeks Micah Ellars and I have been recording a private video series which birthed our upcoming Self Remembering with Archetypes workshop series starting July 9th. These videos won't be seen on any social media, but are for those in my community who know they are going on a deeper path to get with their real self. These raw conversations are personal accounts of discovering false personality, recognizing cult dynamics, transforming co-dependency, finding greater freedom, and how things changed. In the first video, Micah's Story, he shares how he went from being overwhelmed by trauma and a deeply toxic co-dependent relationship to dedicating his life to helping others with self-remembering. The second video, False Light, explores why we're so susceptible to deception, how we get hypnotized by what we want to believe, and the painful but liberating process of waking up to reality. And in the third video, How Self-Remembering Changes Your Relationship with Yourself, we talk about what happens when the false personalities begin to lose their grip and you start discovering a more authentic sense of self. 10	I recently received an advance copy of a book written by someone I knew from my cult in India over 25 years ago. I left in 1999 when I learned that the "guru" was a womanizer and sexual abuser of children. Up until this week, much of what happened there remained a mystery to me. Reading this account has been shocking. I'm only halfway through the book, and the reality is already far worse than I could have imagined. This Friday on Beth of Fresh Air, I'm going to unpack what I've learned and share this cautionary tale on behalf of the author, who is currently facing her own life-threatening illness. My hope is that this conversation helps people recognize cult dynamics sooner, find their way out safely, heal of the spiritual, psychological, and often worse abuse and rediscover inner work that truly belongs to them.
