Native Token Rename: Toncoin (TON) to Gram (GRAM) The community vote on TON Vote has concluded. With 81.22% voting in favor, the native token of The Open Network is being renamed from Toncoin to Gram, with the ticker changing from TON to GRAM. The change takes effect at 12:00 UTC on June 15, 2026. The blockchain itself stays The Open Network. Only the token's name, ticker, and logo change. There is no swap, bridge, claim, or migration. No action is required from users. Balances, addresses, contracts, NFTs, staking, and DeFi positions all stay exactly as they are. Voting opened on June 1, 2026 and closed on June 8, 2026. All ecosystem projects, including exchanges, are expected to make the coordinated update at 12:00 PM UTC on June 15, 2026. By June 22, 2026, full consistency is expected across all projects.

🪙 Toncoin Name Change — Community Vote TON has changed substantially in recent months. Telegram is taking on a leading role in the network and is becoming its largest validator. The chain itself is now 10× faster with fees down 6×. Gram was the name the network's founders gave the token in the original TON White Paper, and it's never left the codebase. That is why Telegram is proposing to rename the native token from Toncoin to Gram, a fitting moment to bring it forward. Blockchain Fee Reduction The TON Core team has prepared a blockchain update to reduce fees by 6x, in line with Pavel Durov’s MTONGA plan. This update includes: 1) Performance improvements The previous Sub-Second update improved not only operation speed but also overall blockchain performance, making a fee reduction possible. Since then, additional optimizations and performance improvements have also been implemented, including a new mempool based on a persistent Cartesian tree. 2) Fixes In addition to performance improvements, this update will include fixes for issues identified on mainnet after the Sub-Second release. In particular, it addresses loss of synchronization on some liteservers and rare block rate instability. Planned Schedule: April 28, 2026 12:00 UTC — Validator software update. April 30, 2026 13:00 UTC — Vote to lower gas prices in the blockchain configuration. Lower fees are important for the next stages of the MTONGA plan. Since fees do not constitute a significant portion of validator rewards, validator rewards are expected to decrease by less than 0.4%. Mainnet validator operators are asked to be prepared to update their software on 28 April and to participate in the vote on 30 April.

TON is now 6x faster. Catchain 2.0 activation now live. The voting for Catchain 2.0 has been successfully passed. Activation took place around 7:00 a.m. UTC. Alongside faster block production, this creates a new opportunity for Toncoin holders. Validators stake Toncoin to help secure the TON network and earn Toncoin from two sources: transaction fees and block creation rewards. After the upgrade, the reward for each block remains the same: 1.7 Toncoin per masterchain block and 1.0 Toncoin per basechain block. With blocks produced much faster (~x6), validators are able to produce more blocks, which increases rewards per validation cycle. As a result, TON’s annual inflation is expected to rise from around 0.6% to around 3.6%. For Toncoin holders, this makes staking more attractive. As validator rewards rise, the incentive to hold and stake Toncoin to secure the TON network becomes stronger. At the same time, TON retains its burn mechanism, 50% of transaction fees are burned, which offsets part of the added issuance as activity grows. In the future, validators may vote to update rewards and burn mechanics to further balance TON’s tokenomics. Catchain 2.0 activation is underway TON validators are voting to fully activate Catchain 2.0, a consensus upgrade that brings sub-second finality to the network. The first phase has been live since April 2. Today, at 14:00 UTC, the final vote started to cut block times to 400 ms across the entire network. To activate the upgrade, validators vote on-chain. The proposal needs support from at least 75% of validators (by stake weight) across two validation rounds, roughly 36 hours.
