Israelin hallitus on vastannut täydellä sotilasoperaatiolla. #Suomi

The Maidan Diary of Dmitry Petrov An Eyewitness Account of the Ukrainian Revolution of 2014 https://crimethinc.com/PetrovUkraine Dmitry Petrov cut his teeth in various anti-fascist, anti-authoritarian, and ecological struggles. He traveled to Kyiv to support Ukrainians as they resisted a government that was aligned with the same autocracy that anarchists were fighting in Russia. What Dmitry saw in Kyiv was by turns exhilarating and disheartening. In his reports, he documents how militarism, nationalism, and hierarchical organization channeled the movement away from the kinds of profound social change that he sought. At the same time, even in the face of fascist threats, he did his best to make a space for anarchist proposals in the Maidan protests. We have translated Dmitry’s reports from February 2014 because they offer insight into historic events, but also because the questions that Dmitry faced there continue to confront us today.

"Leadership is a social disorder in which the majority of participants in a group fail to take initiative or think critically about their actions. As long as we understand agency as a property of specific individuals rather than a relationship between people, we will always be dependent on leaders—and at their mercy. Truly exemplary leaders are as dangerous as the obviously corrupt, in that all their praiseworthy qualities only reinforce their status and others’ deference, not to mention the legitimacy of leadership itself." https://tochangeeverything.com

“Every leader kills people, including my leader. Every leader kills people. Some kill more than others. Leadership requires killing people.” -Tucker Carlson Liberal outrage over Carlson saying this to excuse Vladimir Putin—immediately before Putin had Alexei Navalny killed—is beside the point. Supporters of Carlson, Putin, and Donald Trump admire killers. Liberals are only offering a more milquetoast version of the same political model, which puts them at a disadvantage today. The anarchist alternative is to seek to distribute agency horizontally: not to worship leaders and glorify the state and its violence, but to make it impossible for anyone to rule. In the long run, this is the only real alternative to authoritarianism.

Navalny himself does not interest us. As a Russian anarchist put it a couple years ago, "Navalny is an opportunistic ultra-nationalist bigot of a politician who paints himself as a populist using a narrative of anti-corruption politics that would only prop up a different batch of oligarchs." Still, the protests when Navalny was arrested in 2021 were arguably one of the last expressions of the kind of mass resistance that could have prevented the invasion of Ukraine: https://crimethinc.com/2021/01/24/letter-from-russia-on-the-protests-of-january-23 (See attached video.) The recent events in Russia show that when authoritarians like Putin or Donald Trump gain power, it is only the beginning of the bloodshed. But the tendency to rally around opposition figures rather than developing horizontal networks of resistance is part of the problem.

Russian opposition politician Aleksei Navalny has died in prison, presumably murdered on the orders of Vladimir Putin. In the run-up to the rigged Russian elections this March, the puppet opposition figure Boris Nadezhdin became a rallying point for genuine anti-war sentiment and subsequently began to act in defiance of the Kremlin—not unlike how Yevgeny Prigozhin began as Putin's lackey but eventually struck out on his own. In this context, Putin likely feels that he cannot afford to permit any opposition figure to remain alive.

As Egypt builds a five-meter-high concrete wall to seal off off a five-square-kilometer area along the Gaza border, we cannot help but think of the "no-go zone" on the border of Poland and Belarus, in which thousands of refugees have been enclosed over a period of years, trapped between countries, left to die. https://crimethinc.com/NoBordersTeam Since 2021, the government of Belarus has used thousands of refugees displaced by wars in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Ethiopia, and elsewhere to exert pressure on the European Union. EU governments have left these refugees in limbo between two militarized borders, establishing a restricted zone so that observers cannot see them die. The majority of the inhabitants of Gaza were already refugees from other parts of Palestine. The world has turned a blind eye to Israeli ethnic cleansing in Gaza. If we permit them to complete that process by forcing the survivors into a containment zone across the Egyptian border, it will set a precedent that will be repeated elsewhere.

"Love is a quality of attention, a sensitivity to the world and everything that is possible in it. When we fight on the basis of what we love, rather than in service of ideology or cowardice, we open ourselves to serve as a channel through which everything beautiful in the world can defend itself. To choose love is to choose to keep feeling the blows when others are under attack—everyone facing felony charges, everyone threatened with deportation, all the rivers and animals and plants that sustain us despite all the violence inflicted upon them. Love is not reducible to peace." https://crimethinc.com/withbarricades
