The Light Paper

There are people out there choosing to do something about the problems in their own community. Who looks after our streets when the police aren't there? In Issue 73, page 6, we meet the Liverpool Guardians. A group of volunteers out on the streets helping to make Liverpool safer.. We want to do a large centre spread about people’s thoughts and opinions. We’ve all got different opinions, which is a good thing. So we thought this might make for a great centre spread in a future issue of The Light. We’ve put together a BIG Questions survey covering things like cosmology, health, government, banking and some of the bigger questions and theories out there. There are around 30 questions, mostly multiple choice, with some one-liners and space to write more if you want to. It should take around 5–30 minutes, depending on how much you want to say. You can do it completely anonymously, or leave your name if you’d like us to consider your answers for publication. We think it will make interesting reading for everyone. Take the BIG Questions survey here: https://thelightpaper.substack.com/p/the-big-questions-survey Thank you.

Stop pretending we have democracy. If the real rulers ran the world as an overt tyranny, people would reject it. Latest from us on Substack: https://thelightpaper.substack.com/p/stop-pretending-we-have-democracy

Feeding a food shortage frenzy People need to know so they can prepare properly. “The contemporary agenda of energy, food, and inflation exceeds the capacity of any single government, or even of a few governments together, to resolve.” - Henry Kissinger, World Food Conference in Rome, 1974. Le plus c’est change, le plus c’est la meme chose, eh? If you want people to know why there are going to be serious food shortages and all of the social and economic disruption that is likely to result, then please order a few copies now to drop at your local shops, hand out in town or put through letterboxes. People need to know what is really going on so they can prepare better and for the long term, and the more of us there are, the more chance we have of rebuilding quickly and fewer suffering. Without first shedding light on the real causes of the problems, there can be no permanent solutions. Though we have those too. Knowledge, wisdom and hope. With peace & love & faith xxx The Light Paper

Meet Geoff Thompson. Geoff was fed up with car selling websites getting too expensive and ruining the experience of buying and selling cars. So he DID A THING. He decided to take on Auto Trader and create an alternative where people can buy and sell their cars for free. This isn't a paid advert. It's just a great example of someone seeing something they weren't happy with and actually doing something about it. https://geofftrader.co.uk/

Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a brilliant get together! Huge thanks also to the venue owner Paul and his staff, the fantastic workshop leaders, musicians, volunteers and stallholders. We absolutely love putting on these special SITL gatherings and have another Stand In The Night event planned for later in the year (I can't bring myself to mention the C-word just yet! 😆) - details to come soon! Big love to you all from Fi & Darren. 😘 xxx standinthelight.uk @standinthelightfest

Meet Rachel Mathews. Rachel has spent years challenging councils over Net Zero and asking the questions about what’s really going on behind the self-destructive policies being pushed. She tells the story of being stuck in Spain during lockdown and the rabbit hole of research that followed. Read the article on page 13, issue 60. Meet comedian and political commentator Abi Roberts who was inspired by lockdown to write her memoirs that pack a punch. As she puts it: “Creativity, whether music, comedy, writing, whatever, is a way to defeat these bastards – because they can’t take that from us!” Read the full interview in The Light Paper, Issue 64, page 13. We're so looking forward to this last, special Stand In The Light event of the year to celebrate six years of spreading truth with The Light Paper! Join us this weekend for two full days of brilliant workshops and campfire jams at a fantastic camping pub in St. Helens, Lancs. (see full address on poster) Day tickets (£20) are available to buy on the gate if you can't make the whole weekend, otherwise you can secure your camping pitches with an add-on ticket when you buy tickets on the festival website. They're limited so be quick! See you there! Fi & Darren. xx🥳 standinthelight.uk/tickets @standinthelightfest

Things have moved on since we ran this centre spread in Issue 72. Rachel Reeves has now 'paused' and is reviewing the plans for local government reorganisation and devolution. A big shout out to Rachel, Madeleine and everyone else who've been active in fighting this and refusing to let them just do what they want. If you don't know what this is all about, you should. Read the full HD centre spread on our downloads page, or order a paper copy from the website. www.thelightpaper.co.uk

The Light is now six years old, despite many doubting we would even print one issue. To celebrate we have hired a fantastic music/camping pub, The Junction in Rainford. There will be lots of different practical talks in the big marquee during the day, or you can just chill out camping and chatting if you prefer. Then after dinner we’ll light two big firepits and have invited several awake and brilliantly talented musicians/performers to entertain through the night. It’s £20 per day plus camping fees, it’s the last event we’re putting on this year and anyone who’s been to any freedom music festivals this year knows how awesome some of those late-night campfire singalongs were. There really are limited spaces, especially for camping, so don’t miss out if you fancy it.
