📚 THIS DAY IN LITERATURE — June 16 Today is Bloomsday — one of the most celebrated dates in literary history. It honors James Joyce's masterpiece Ulysses (1922). ✍️ The entire novel takes place on a single day: June 16, 1904. Joyce chose this date because it was the day of his first date with Nora Barnacle, the love of his life. But here is why Ulysses matters so much. 👇 Joyce took the 24-hour journey of an ordinary Dublin man, Leopold Bloom, and turned it into a modern Odyssey. Each chapter uses a different writing style. The book was banned in the US and UK for over a decade for obscenity. Every year on June 16, people in Dublin dress in Edwardian clothes, trace Bloom's path through the city, and read passages aloud. No other novel has its own holiday. 🔥 "A man of genius makes no mistakes. His errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery." — James Joyce, Ulysses LimitlessLiterature.com

📚 THIS DAY IN LITERATURE — June 15 Today we explore Michel Foucault's ideas about power and knowledge — essential reading for UGC NET students. ✍️ Foucault was a French philosopher and literary theorist. His key idea is simple but revolutionary: knowledge is not neutral. It is always connected to power. Whoever controls knowledge controls people. Here is how this applies to literature. 👇 In works like Discipline and Punish (1975) and The History of Sexuality (1976), Foucault showed how societies use language, institutions, and "truth" to control individuals. Literature, he argued, is also a site of power — it can both reinforce and resist dominant ideologies. For literature students, Foucault teaches us to always ask: Who benefits from this story? Whose voice is silenced? 🔥 "Where there is power, there is resistance." — Michel Foucault LimitlessLiterature.com

📚 THIS DAY IN LITERATURE — June 13 On this day in 1865, W.B. Yeats was born in Dublin, Ireland. He became the greatest English-language poet of the 20th century. ✍️ Yeats won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923. His poems — "The Second Coming," "Sailing to Byzantium," "Easter 1916" — are among the most studied in the world. He also helped create the Abbey Theatre and shaped the Irish Literary Revival. But here is what makes Yeats remarkable for students. 👇 His career spanned two completely different styles. Early Yeats wrote dreamy, romantic poems about Irish myths. Later Yeats wrote hard, modern, symbolic poems about politics and aging. He reinvented himself as a poet at the age of 50. He grew old but his poetry stayed fierce and young. 🔥 "Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; mere anarchy is loosed upon the world." — W.B. Yeats, The Second Coming LimitlessLiterature.com

📚 THIS DAY IN LITERATURE — June 12 On this day in 1929, Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany. She received a diary for her 13th birthday and began writing in it on June 12, 1942. ✍️ Anne and her Jewish family hid from the Nazis in a secret annex in Amsterdam for two years. During that time, she wrote about fear, hope, growing up, and her dreams of becoming a writer. Here is the heartbreaking truth. 👇 The family was discovered in August 1944. Anne died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. She was only 15. Her father Otto, the only family member to survive, found her diary and published it in 1947. The Diary of a Young Girl has been translated into 70 languages and has sold over 30 million copies. A teenage girl's diary became one of the most important books of the 20th century. 🔥 "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart." — Anne Frank LimitlessLiterature.com

📚 THIS DAY IN LITERATURE — June 11 On this day in 1572, Ben Jonson was born in London. He was Shakespeare's greatest rival and one of the finest playwrights of the English Renaissance. ✍️ Jonson wrote Volpone, The Alchemist, and Every Man in His Humour. He pioneered the "comedy of humours" — plays where characters are dominated by one personality trait, making them funny and memorable. But here is the fascinating rivalry. 👇 Jonson and Shakespeare were friends and competitors. After Shakespeare died, Jonson wrote the famous tribute in the First Folio (1623): "He was not of an age, but for all time." This line is still the most quoted description of Shakespeare. The rival became the greatest champion. 🔥 "He was not of an age, but for all time!" — Ben Jonson, on Shakespeare LimitlessLiterature.com
