Phantom was one of the creatures that was supposed to appear in Resident Evil 4. When the game eventually turned into Devil May Cry, Phantom was kept but his design was changed to accommodate to the new story; instead of having blood flowing around his body, lava was used

This is one of the servants of the Dark Emperor. Inside its exoskeleton body is hot molten lava. Not only is the shell hard, it also protects it from magical attacks as well.

In the English game manual Phantom is described as "one of the highest-ranking generals" among Mundus' forces, though the precise nature of this rank is unclear, as he only ever acts alone. In terms of personality he is the quintessential bully, eager to intimidate his foes and quickly frustrated if he is not taken seriously.

Because of his rather frequent appearances in Devil May Cry and a reappearance in the second, he holds the distinction of being one the most frequently fought boss in the series, with a total of nine possible encounters

His blood is liquid magma, and the creature often leaves a trail of fire behind him as he walks

The head has six distinct eyes, which are normally deep blue but turn red when the creature's tail is unfurled.

Coiled on its back is a deadly tail that will thrust its stinger with amazing speed

It releases its magical powers with its mouth. This opening is the monster's weak spot.

It can summon the dead by plunging its head into the ground. The dead will awaken in the shape of fire pillars which strike from the places where the ground lights up.

☆Phantom

Phantom combines traits of multiple arachnids, with an overall form resembling a spider, but a long scorpion like tail with a stinger coiled up on top of his abdomen and massive club-like forelimbs which he uses to strike at his foes. His magical powers are fire-based and mostly related to controlling fireballs or magma. Despite being referred to as male in one of the file entries, he also appears to be capable of reproducing in some way, as Dante occasionally encounters swarms of harmless infant "Phantom babies" that are easily crushed underfoot.

Marionettes usually hang from the ceiling by their strings until approached, whereupon they will drop to the ground and attack. They may also be encountered sprawled on the ground. The attacks for Marionettes differ, depending on their armament. Their equipment is often randomized. Marionettes should not be underestimated: while slow and ungainly, their size means they have a lot of reach and they will often attack from multiple angles at once.

They will also throw crescent-shaped blades that curve round obstacles to attack you.

During devil may cry early development, they were originally designed as masked zombies with grotesquely elongated arms, controlled by puppet strings: concept art of this form can be seen in the "Vault" section of Devil May Cry HD Collection.

They are low-class evil spirits that borrow the bodies of puppets in order to exist in a physical state. Their red outfit dyed with human blood somehow increases their evil powers.

They have the ability to manifest weapons in their hands: either two crescent-shaped blades, two throwing daggers resembling fictional depictions of Japanese kunai, or a shotgun similar to the one Dante can acquire. Those with blades are able to throw them, and can create an infinite supply of these weapons.

They will make a screeching evil war cry to immobilize those near them. If they catch you, they will not let go easily and will try to slash and gash at your neck.
