🔆 India Strengthens Global Leadership in Food Standards at CAC49 📍 Why in Focus? India achieved major successes at the 49th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC49) held in Geneva, Switzerland (6–10 July 2026) with the adoption of seven India-led Codex texts and approval to develop a Codex Standard for Cashew Kernels. 📍 Key Highlights: ✅ Seven India-led Codex standards and guidelines were adopted, reinforcing India’s role in developing science-based international food standards. ✅ Standards developed under India’s chairmanship include Dried Coriander Seeds and Fresh Curry Leaves, while co-chaired texts cover Vanilla, Large Cardamom, safe reuse of water in food production, Campylobacter and Salmonella control in chicken meat, and food labelling. ✅ CAC49 approved India’s proposal to develop a Codex Standard for Cashew Kernels, expected to boost Indian exports, reduce technical trade barriers and strengthen global market access. ✅ India was elected Co-Chair of the Electronic Working Group on New Food Sources and Production Systems (NFPS) to review global regulatory frameworks and future Codex guidance. ✅ India’s achievements will benefit farmers, food businesses, exporters and consumers by promoting food safety, consumer protection and fair international trade. 📍 Challenges / Issues / Implications: ✅ Harmonising global food standards while accommodating diverse national regulations ✅ Ensuring effective implementation of Codex standards by domestic food industries ✅ Maintaining scientific, transparent and internationally accepted food safety standards. 🔆 वैश्विक खाद्य मानकों में भारत की बढ़ती नेतृत्वकारी भूमिका: CAC49 📍 चर्चा में क्यों? भारत ने 6–10 जुलाई 2026 को जिनेवा, स्विट्जरलैंड में आयोजित Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC49) के 49वें सत्र में महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धियाँ हासिल कीं। इस दौरान भारत के नेतृत्व में तैयार 7 Codex मानकों/दिशानिर्देशों को अपनाया गया तथा काजू गिरी (Cashew Kernels) के लिए नया Codex Standard विकसित करने के भारत के प्रस्ताव को भी मंजूरी मिली। 📍 मुख्य बिंदु: ✅ भारत के नेतृत्व में तैयार 7 Codex मानक एवं दिशानिर्देश अपनाए गए, जिससे विज्ञान-आधारित अंतरराष्ट्रीय खाद्य मानकों के निर्माण में भारत की भूमिका और मजबूत हुई। ✅ भारत की अध्यक्षता में विकसित मानकों में सूखे धनिया के बीज (Dried Coriander Seeds) और ताज़ी करी पत्तियाँ (Fresh Curry Leaves) शामिल हैं। वहीं सह-अध्यक्षता में तैयार मानकों में वनीला (Vanilla), बड़ी इलायची (Large Cardamom), खाद्य उत्पादन में जल के सुरक्षित पुनः उपयोग, चिकन मांस में Campylobacter एवं Salmonella नियंत्रण तथा खाद्य लेबलिंग से संबंधित दिशानिर्देश शामिल हैं। ✅ CAC49 ने काजू गिरी (Cashew Kernels) के लिए Codex Standard विकसित करने के भारत के प्रस्ताव को स्वीकृति दी, जिससे भारतीय निर्यात को बढ़ावा मिलेगा, तकनीकी व्यापार बाधाएँ कम होंगी तथा वैश्विक बाजार तक पहुँच मजबूत होगी। ✅ भारत को New Food Sources and Production Systems (NFPS) पर Electronic Working Group का सह-अध्यक्ष (Co-Chair) चुना गया, जो वैश्विक नियामक ढाँचे और भविष्य के Codex दिशानिर्देशों की समीक्षा करेगा। ✅ भारत की ये उपलब्धियाँ किसानों, खाद्य उद्योगों, निर्यातकों एवं उपभोक्ताओं के लिए लाभकारी होंगी तथा खाद्य सुरक्षा, उपभोक्ता संरक्षण और निष्पक्ष अंतरराष्ट्रीय व्यापार को बढ़ावा देंगी। 📍 चुनौतियाँ / मुद्दे / प्रभाव: ✅ विभिन्न देशों के अलग-अलग नियमों के बीच वैश्विक खाद्य मानकों का सामंजस्य स्थापित करना। ✅ घरेलू खाद्य उद्योगों द्वारा Codex मानकों का प्रभावी क्रियान्वयन सुनिश्चित करना। ✅ वैज्ञानिक, पारदर्शी और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर स्वीकार्य खाद्य सुरक्षा मानकों को बनाए रखना।

🔆 APEDA Facilitates First Export of GI-Tagged Tezpur Litchi from Assam to Dubai 🇮🇳🍒 📍 Why in Focus? ✅ APEDA facilitated the first export of GI-tagged Tezpur Litchi from Assam to Dubai on 7 June 2026, marking a major milestone in promoting Northeast India’s agricultural exports. 📍 Key Highlights: ✅ A 1-metric-tonne consignment of GI-tagged Tezpur Litchi was exported, showcasing Assam’s premium horticultural produce in international markets. ✅ GI status has enhanced the identity, market recognition, and export potential of Tezpur Litchi, creating new opportunities for premium agricultural exports. ✅ Farmers associated with the export supply chain received nearly 10% higher prices than prevailing domestic market rates, improving incomes and livelihood opportunities. ✅ APEDA is promoting agricultural exports through quality assurance, certification support, infrastructure development, capacity building, market linkage initiatives, and integration of FPOs into global value chains. ✅ The initiative is expected to strengthen the global presence of Assam’s GI products, boost exports from the North Eastern Region, and encourage greater participation in export-oriented value chains. 📍 UPSC Value Addition: ✅ APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) was established under the APEDA Act, 1985 under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. ✅ APEDA promotes exports of scheduled agricultural and processed food products through quality development, infrastructure assistance, capacity building, and market promotion. ✅ Geographical Indication (GI) Tag protects products possessing unique qualities linked to their geographical origin and enhances branding and export competitiveness. 🔆 APEDA ने असम की GI-टैग प्राप्त तेजपुर लीची का पहला निर्यात दुबई को कराया 🇮🇳🍒 📍 चर्चा में क्यों? ✅ APEDA ने 7 जून 2026 को असम की GI-टैग प्राप्त तेजपुर लीची (Tezpur Litchi) का पहला निर्यात दुबई (UAE) के लिए सफलतापूर्वक कराया। यह पूर्वोत्तर भारत के कृषि निर्यात को बढ़ावा देने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धि है। 📍 मुख्य बिंदु: ✅ 1 मीट्रिक टन GI-टैग प्राप्त तेजपुर लीची की खेप दुबई निर्यात की गई, जिससे असम के उच्च गुणवत्ता वाले बागवानी उत्पादों को अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजार में पहचान मिली। ✅ GI टैग मिलने से तेजपुर लीची की विशिष्ट पहचान, बाज़ार में प्रतिष्ठा और निर्यात क्षमता में वृद्धि हुई है, जिससे प्रीमियम कृषि उत्पादों के निर्यात के नए अवसर खुले हैं। ✅ इस निर्यात से जुड़े किसानों को घरेलू बाजार की तुलना में लगभग 10% अधिक मूल्य प्राप्त हुआ, जिससे उनकी आय और आजीविका में सुधार हुआ। ✅ APEDA गुणवत्ता आश्वासन, प्रमाणन (Certification), अवसंरचना विकास, क्षमता निर्माण (Capacity Building), बाज़ार संपर्क (Market Linkage) तथा FPOs को वैश्विक मूल्य श्रृंखला (Global Value Chain) से जोड़कर कृषि निर्यात को बढ़ावा दे रहा है। ✅ यह पहल असम के GI उत्पादों की वैश्विक पहचान मजबूत करेगी, पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र से कृषि निर्यात बढ़ाएगी तथा निर्यात-उन्मुख मूल्य श्रृंखलाओं में किसानों और FPOs की भागीदारी को प्रोत्साहित करेगी। 📍 UPSC/Competitive Exam Value Addition: ✅ APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) की स्थापना APEDA अधिनियम, 1985 के तहत वाणिज्य एवं उद्योग मंत्रालय (Ministry of Commerce & Industry) के अधीन की गई थी। ✅ APEDA अनुसूचित कृषि एवं प्रसंस्कृत खाद्य उत्पादों के निर्यात संवर्धन के लिए गुणवत्ता विकास, अवसंरचना सहायता, क्षमता निर्माण तथा बाज़ार प्रोत्साहन का कार्य करता है। ✅ भौगोलिक संकेतक (Geographical Indication - GI) टैग ऐसे उत्पादों को कानूनी संरक्षण प्रदान करता है जिनकी विशिष्ट गुणवत्ता या प्रतिष्ठा उनके भौगोलिक क्षेत्र से जुड़ी होती है। इससे उत्पाद की ब्रांडिंग, बाज़ार मूल्य और निर्यात प्रतिस्पर्धात्मकता बढ़ती है।
