Kellner und Bulshtein gehören zwar nicht zur ersten Reihe des Likud. Die Annäherung ist dennoch kaum als private Initiative zweier Parteivertreter zu verstehen. Bulshtein verantwortet die internationalen Beziehungen des Likud, die Partei trat den Patrioten für Europa als Beobachter bei, und Netanjahu empfing Vilimsky bereits persönlich. Gegen den Willen des israelischen Ministerpräsidenten wäre diese Entwicklung schwer vorstellbar.
Eine förmliche Aufhebung der bisherigen israelischen Distanz zur FPÖ bedeutet die Straßburger Konferenz noch nicht. Sie ist jedoch ein deutliches Signal, dass der Likud seine Beziehungen zur europäischen Rechten neu ordnet. Für die FPÖ ist das ein außenpolitischer Durchbruch. Für Netanjahus Partei ist es die Vorbereitung auf ein Europa, in dem die früher Geächteten zunehmend selbst regieren."
