There is no rule or guideline to predict the truncation. However one trick that could help is to observe the internal wave counts of Truncated fifth.

One of the reasons is Wave 5 Truncation. Truncation means failure. When Wave 5 fails to terminate beyond the end of Wave 3 it is called truncated fifth. A truncated fifth wave is often followed by a sharp and swift reversal
