LiDAR Survey of Lakkundi’s Hidden Heritage:
⦿ Karnataka DAMH and NIAS, Bengaluru signed an MoU for a LiDAR survey of Lakkundi, Gadag.
⦿ Aim: Locate hidden 10th–12th century temples, monuments and wells.
⦿ Uses LiDAR, GIS, GPR, drones, remote sensing and photogrammetry.
⦿ Lakkundi, known as Lokki-Gundi, is a major Kalyana-Chalukya heritage centre.
⦿ Its temples showcase Vesara architecture, blending Nagara, Dravida and Bhumija styles.
⦿ The survey will aid scientific conservation, discover unknown remains and strengthen its potential UNESCO World Heritage candidature.

🟢 This was made possible through the mediation of Ananda, one of Buddha’s closest disciples.
🟢 Mahapajapati Gautami, Buddha’s foster mother, became the first woman to be ordained as a Bhikkhuni.

🟢 It is a collection of verses composed by Bhikkhunis (Buddhist nuns).
🟢 It forms part of the Khuddaka Nikaya of the Sutta Pitaka.
🟢 It provides valuable insights into the social, spiritual and personal experiences of women in early Buddhism.
