A 32-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly strangling his pregnant wife to death at their home in Greenfield Colony of Faridabad earlier this week and trying to pass it off as a fatal robbery, police said on Friday.
The accused was produced before a court on Friday and taken on a six-day police custody for further interrogation.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to join the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest against the alleged NEET paper leak at Jantar Mantar on Monday, people familiar with the matter said.

India finally got itself featured on the Commonwealth Games leaderboard as para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar brought the first medal for the country in the 2026 edition of the tournament. The 28-year-old won the bronze medal in the men's heavyweight event on Friday night. On the other hand, Sudhir, the other participant in the event, finished sixth.
In the men's heavyweight final, Jhandu appeared in Group B. He first lifted 181 kg in his first attempt and then went on to lift 190kg in his next attempt. These two lifts were enough for him to race ahead in the leaderboard. However, he wasn't able to lift a whopping 196kg on his third and final attempt, and his total points tally remained at 130.9.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday approved a draft bill that will pave the way for harsher punishments—such as a jail time of up to 10 years and stiffer penalties of up to ₹10 crore— for those convicted of paper leaks, said people aware of the details.
The draft bill will amend The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, proposing a minimum punishment of five years’ imprisonment for individuals involved in paper leaks, the people cited above said.

An Indian seafarer was killed in a drone strike on a ship in the Black Sea last week, officials said on Friday, even as an LPG carrier Disha came under missile attack near Iran, leaving the vessel temporarily without manoeuvrability.
MV Omorfi was attacked while transiting the Black Sea, reportedly in Russian territorial waters, on July 18, the external affairs ministry said in a statement. Chief Officer Sagar Gupta, one of three Indian nationals among the 10 crew members, was killed in the attack, while the two other Indian crew members are safe.

An 18-year-old woman was allegedly strangulated to death by her parents, who were opposed to her relationship with a youth in Shamli district, police said on Friday.
Superintendent of Police N P Singh said Ahsan and his wife Gufrana were arrested in connection with the death of their daughter, Hina, who was found hanging from the ceiling of her house in Kandhla on July 1.
