66. The Beggar Ans. The beggar is a very common sight. Whether it is a temple or a theatre, you are sure to see the beggar. Whether you are at a bus-stop or at a railway station, you cannot avoid him. Many people feel that the beggar is a real nuisance (ત્રાસ). You cannot get rid of them easily. In India, there are two classes of beggars - the able-bodied and the crippled (પાંગળું). There are some healthy people who beg instead of working. They are either unemployed or do not want to work. They live on alms (દાન). They are a burden on the society. But there are some who are willing to work, but do not get any job. Thus, they are forced to beg. There are some crippled beggars also. Some are born handicapped, while others become handicapped after some accident. Such beggars deserve our sympathy and charity. The Indian beggar, on the whole, is an object of pity. He is seen in torn clothes and with a begging-bowl in his hands. He lives on the roads. We should give him some food or money. If possible, we should give him some work. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 67. A Day in the Life of a Bus Conductor Ans. The bus conductor is a very familiar figure for all those who travel by bus. The bus conductor wears a khakhi uniform. He has a ticket tray and a leather bag to keep money. The bus conductor leads a very hard life. He gets up early in the morning. He goes to the bus depot. He puts on his khakhi uniform and begins his work. He rings the bell to instruct the bus driver to start or stop the bus. He sees to it that all the passengers get in and out of the bus safely. He makes sure that no passenger jumps the queue. He also takes care and sees to it that women, children and old people get a seat in the bus. The bus conductor's job is very tiresome. He has to keep on moving to and fro in the crowded bus. He issues tickets to all the passengers and collects fare from them. Sometimes, he has to face some quarrelsome passengers. He then loses his temper. But most of the time, he has a smiling and cheerful face. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 68. A Day in the Life of a Nurse Ans. The nurse is a familiar figure. She works in a hospital. She always looks smart in her uniform. The nurse has to work very hard the whole day. She visits the patients under her care. She feels the pulse of the patients. She takes their temperature. She records these in the charts. She gives medicines and injections according to the doctor's prescription. She also dresses the wounds of the injured. The nurse does not get enough rest and sleep. She has her duty during the day or at night. Besides her hospital duty, she looks after her house and family as well. The nurse is kind and loving. She is always smiling and cheerful. She speaks softly. She is patient. Sometimes, she has a few short-tempered patients under her care. But she never gets angry with them. She is always polite and kind to all. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 69. A Day in the Life of a Shoeshine Boy Ans. The shoeshine boy is a very familiar figure in India. We see him in public places like the railway station, the bus-stop and sometimes in trains also. A shoeshine boy is poorly dressed. His clothes are dirty and sometimes torn, too. The day of a shoeshine boy begins quite early in the morning. He spreads his mat on the footpath and places the box of brushes and shoe polish next to him. He calls out to the passers-by and requests them to get their shoes polished. The shoeshine boy works very hard the whole day. Some customers do not pay him enough money. Even after working till late night, he hardly earns enough to buy food for his family. Sometimes he has to change many places during the day due to the fear of the police. The shoeshine boy packs up late in the evening. He counts his earnings, buys some food and returns home.
