Reducing this number can be achieved with water filtration devices and using portable re-usable drinking bottles and cups. Reduce waste by repurposing and reusing old items. One of the bests ways to do this is by shopping at secondhand stores. Not only does it prevent items from ending up in the landfill, but it also saves you money. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has found that over the last 60 years, at least 40 percent of all internal conflicts have been linked to the exploitation of natural resources, whether high-value resources such as timber, diamonds, gold and oil, or scarce resources such as fertile land and water. Conflicts involving natural resources have also been found to be twice as likely to relapse. The United Nations attaches great importance to ensuring that action on the environment is part of conflict prevention, peacekeeping and peacebuilding strategies, because there can be no durable peace if the natural resources that sustain livelihoods and ecosystems are destroyed. On 5 November 2001, the UN General Assembly declared 6 November of each year as the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict. @Environmentalists

NOVEMBER 1ST, WORLD ECOLOGY DAY It was called World Ecology Day, a celebration oriented to the work of ecologists and the importance of caring for the environment. The great mission of this celebration is to make society aware that Ecology, as a science, has a central role in identifying sustainability problems and in the search for solutions to face them. The 150th anniversary of Ecology was celebrated in 2016 with a round table at the European Parliament, Brussels. This celebration was born from an aspiration to develop a collective social mind of what Ecology represents in today’s threatened world. What is intended is to find methods to prevent the disappearance of ecosystems and animals in danger of extinction. Avoid the alteration of relations with other organisms, the disappearance of glaciers, jungles, and the deforestation of forests, and avoid the contamination of ecosystems. World Lemur Day is celebrated on the last Friday of October and this year, the holiday is scheduled to fall on October 31. The objective of this holiday is to raise awareness about the need to preserve this endangered species, and to celebrate its unique attributes. The holiday was first observed in 2014, when it was founded by Jonah Ratsimmbazafy in Antananarivo, Madagascar. Since then zoos and animal rights organizations across the globe have been celebrating this particular event. International Day of Climate Action is celebrated every October 24th and is dedicated to raising awareness about the urgent need to address climate change. On October 23rd, International Snow Leopard Day celebrates this endangered cat. It’s also a day to learn more about the snow leopard and how to protect this elusive animal. Although called snow leopards, these big cats are more closely related to a tiger than a leopard. Snow leopards live in alpine areas that are 18,000 feet in elevation, mostly in the Himalayas. China and Mongolia have the highest numbers of snow leopards. They also live in Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Russia. These cats earn the name snow leopard because they adapt well to the snow and cold. Their wide fur-covered feet act as natural snowshoes. Snow leopards are often called “ghosts of the mountains” because people rarely see them. One reason for this is they usually only come out at dusk and dawn while it’s still dark. In 2016 the Earthworm Society of Britain (ESB) nominated 21st October as World Earthworm Day to give the world an opportunity to celebrate these ecologically vital and under-appreciated animals. An October date was chosen in order to honor the father of earthworm ecology, Charles Darwin, as this is the month that his book 'The Formation of Vegetable Mould Through the Actions of worms' was published. Since that first World Earthworm Day on Friday 21st October 2016, we repeated our new tradition on the same day each year and celebrated why #EarthwormsAreImportant with an ever-growing number of supporters and partners. Scutes are the thick bony or horny plates which form the dermal layer of such reptiles like turtles and crocodiles.   There are more than 10,000 species of reptiles.
